PC recording help

I've been looking for a decent program to get started in PC recording, so I picked up a copy of Cakewalk Guitar Tracks Pro 3, along with an M-Audio Fast Track USB interface. I'm pretty new to the whole recording aspect of guitar playing, so I'm wondering if you guys can clarify something for me. I'm currently using a Soundblaster Audigy card, but it's one of the older Audigy models. Does the USB interface work with the sound card, or in place of it? From what I understand, I should get a much cleaner signal going through the USB unit than if I were plugging directly into the sound card. But do I need to upgrade the sound card as well to get the most out of my recording setup? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: PC recording help

Your USB interface will have the ins and outs that you want to use- When you set the confiuration up you will essentially bypass the soudcard when recording- Feed inputs into the box and run the output into the most transparent monitorign environment you can find- In other words a stereo is much better than usign guitar amps, and a reffernce amp or powered nearfield speakers would be the next step-
Hope this helps
