Pearly gates/'59 Combo?

Re: Pearly gates/'59 Combo?

welcome to the forum!!

ive heard of many people doing it with great success. ive love the pg, one of my favorite pups and ive used a 59n off and on for years, just never togeather. i bet it would work in the right guitar. the ar 250 is like an sg shape but with lp woods right?

Yeah. A little more "classy" looking. I always thought of SGs as workhorses that were meant to be played hard, dinged up well, and have at least one sliver of wood missing and one mismatched part. I love my SG. (sigh) :)

Re: Pearly gates/'59 Combo?

I'd do it the opposite: PGN neck and 59B bridge. In fact I did! That's exactly what's in my dual HB Strat...

I like the alnico 2 PGN neck because it has less bass than the 59N and doesn't get woofy when I lower the volume pot for cleaner chord tones.

And I like the 59B because it has strong full tone at the bridge and the alnico 5 gives it a deeper, "bigger but tighter" bass tone from the wound strings.

I used to have this combo in my LTD... they worked great together... I just had to lower the '59 more than usual and raise the PG... Great combo even tho a little unusual as most people will go with an a5 in the bridge and a2 in the neck (as Lew does it...). It worked really nice for me anyways...
