I have this mockingbird special in alpine white with black hardware. Very eye catching, to say the least. Have been dilberating what pickup or pickups to swap into it for months. My initial thought was a set of black winters, because, it's white, it's a theme, thought it was clever.
Bought a set, had to sell it again for reason-xyz, but then I saw a SD video where someone was demonstrating them with a Line 6 Helix (their new flagship floorboard processor) and really dug what I hearing. So short of the long is I found a pair at a decent price, put in the bridge of the white mock, and the neck I put in another guitar. The result is stellar! The acoustic tone of the mocking is bright and even a bit on the metallic side, but the richness of that pearly gates just takes that borderline harshness and sweetens and enriches it in a way I couldn't have seen coming! The PG is a WARM humbucker, because as I've just said the acoustic tone of this guitar is rather bright, but still find I need to roll off bass frequencies in the preamp, and cut some on the way into the amp as well. What I get is a HUGE tone that, after taming the bass, is super tight but not thin in any way.
This could be the best rock and metal tone I've ever experienced! Just wanted to share!
