Pearly Gates or 59/C Hybrid for cleans?

I've narrowed down my JB bridge pickup replacement to either the pearly gates or the hybrid. It'll be coupled with a duckbucker in the neck for extra quack when needed, however I'm looking for something dynamic with solid cleans.
From the clip's I've heard the hybrid sounds a bit more icy in the high end, on the other hand the pg while having a lot of high end is not as sharp. However, I prefer the hybrid's low end. Is the this something that can be eq'd out ?

The fundamental nature of a pickup remains the same. All you do with eq is increase/change the amount of it.

Hi,
I have a Hybrid, and a 7 band Boss EQ, also a new J.Rockett "Rockaway" which is an Archer with an EQ added.
AlexR is correct. And I can use either of my EQ's to shape the sound inherent in the 59/Hybrid. So the shortest answer is you CAN shape this pick up easily. In fact, I like it so much, I mainly leave the Boss home and just take the Rockaway Booster/Gain EQ to the gig.
The Hybrid is perfect for me. It's big, grand, has a nice crunch to it when digging in, and can clean up well enough to play B.B.King licks. (sorry to those who are tired of me using the BBKing reference, but it really explains a lot that way). When I use the JRockett Boost/ Gain Rockaway, I use it like any boost/gain, but with my set up, I only need to boost the high mids a bit and leave the low EQ faders flat. I don't use bass and very little mids on my amp (long story) so you have tons of room if you want an EQ, this pickup has plenty of whatever you need, just an amp tweek or pedal tweek away.
The Hybrid is dynamic with very solid cleans.
I have one Strat with a Hybrid bridge, middle TwangBanger single coil, and they quack well together (no neck p'up). As does my other Strat with a bridge Hybrid and NECK TwangBanger (no middle p'up). They sound very Hendrix like together. In both guitars.

I can say the Pearly Gates has the best cleans I can imagine from a strat bridge humbucker. I am guessing the Hybrid will have much stronger mids and should sound less open, and I never tried to eq a pickup to alter its main character. Hope Mr Steve Buffington is right and you can.

Actually, the Hybrid's mids are scooped because of the coils it is made from are scooped. It is really like a dynamic, higher output PAF that still has some bass to it. The PG might blend, output-wise, better than the PG with the Duckbucker, but I'd try to wire it so the Hybrid is split in position 2 (of a 3 position switch).

The big plus of the Hybrid for me is that it splits really sweetly.

Hi,
I never said an EQ would or could alter a pick-ups character. But you alter the heck out of its frequencies. That is what I meant. My favorite p'ups in the world are the Seth Lover, Jazz, 59/Hybrid, and WLH. I do, at home, use an EQ to give me a little more high end on each of them except the Jazz. On Stage with the band I'm in an EQ is fairly wasted when it comes to subtleties. A passenger plane crash would go unnoticed, that's how loud the drummer gets. When I used my Seth on Stage, I changed the magnet to give it more higher mids and bite, but still has that Seth quality I love so much.
On quieter songs the EQ on my Rockaway can be heard, but it still sounds like my pickup, just tweeked with a bit more mid-high end. My ears don't register some very high frequencies after a lifetime of playing, but they hear the other frequencies and total pickup character.
A great example of "can't change character": A JB can never be as clean as a Seth Lover, 59, or a Jazz, but you can still EQ the heck out of it to remove or add frequencies so it is sharper, or tighter on the low end, but it till is a JB - great for leads and heavy rhythm, but BB King tone? Never.
