Pearly Gates Plus

I'm thinking of putting a set of Pearly Gates Plus in my LP. My understanding is these are a slightly hotter wind that the regular Pearly Gates, with an A5 magnet.

I've seen them obviously for strats, but would a combo of these work in an LP?

Do these even comes in a set that I could put in an LP?

Re: Pearly Gates Plus

From what I understand, they're not hotter than a standard PG model, they have the same wind. The "plus" part is just from the A5 magnet, which gives more output than an A2.

the Duncan FAQ shows that the resistance and resonant peak are different from the regular PG. it's a slightly hotter wind, but not a night and day difference.

helios, the PG+ is only available packaged from Fender - the most recent ones are double white and tremolo-spaced. there are some regular-spaced double black PG+ floating around in the used market though.

you could easily order a set from the Custom shop though and have the bridge wound hotter. if you just want the A5 mags, you can make the change yourself for ~$10.

Re: Pearly Gates Plus

I borrowed an LP with a PG+ bridge, PG neck, for my last session.
It was just a plain old, Les Paul Standard.

But with that pickup combo, it was a lean, mean Texas tone machine. Easy pinch harmonics, tones of midrange complexity, nice clarity and note detail. A full low-end, but enough high end sparkle for great cleans, and clear sounding chords.

Definitely a nice setup.

they're actually partchment IIRC, but it's so close it hardly matters:D

mine is from the late 1990s and it's regular spaced - seems to be plain old white. I honestly haven't seen one of the late production PG+ up close to verify.

interestingly, the PG+ is no longer available according to Fender but I have seen some Fender-packaged humbuckers lately that are marked as "Pearly Gates" (parchment) with no "+"

Mine is parchment too (out of a Fender Lonestar Strat). The hotter wind and the 250k volume in a Fender Strat should compensate the more prominent high content of the A5. Having a PG sound in a strat. If you use the PG+ in a 500k volume Les Paul type guitar you get:
'Easy pinch harmonics, tones of midrange complexity, nice clarity and note detail. A full low-end, but enough high end sparkle for great cleans, and clear sounding chords.'
