I was just wondering if any of you guys could tell me how much, if I wanted to buy one, I should be looking to pay for a 60Watt 5150 Combo?

Re: Peavey 5150 Combo

You should definitely pay less than the heads....I've seen them go for around $500 or so on Ebay....that's a good deal IMO for a good sounding amp.

I think you'd be much better served getting a Carvin Legacy combo, imho ...

Whats so much better about them than the 5150? I know Vai uses them but thats pretty much where my knowledge ends... And I've heard they can be pretty pricey.. and rare, atleast over here in the UK.

Re: Peavey 5150 Combo

Well now i'm completely torn between the Legacy and the 5150... even though they seem to be at opposite ends of the spectrum from eachother... I listened to this clip of the Legacy:

And I have to say I'm very impressed with the tone... but since i live in the middle of no-where the chances of me being able to try before I buy are slim unless I plan to drive about 50 miles to London... Hmm, what an conundrum.

Anyone have anything to say to sway my decison??

Re: Peavey 5150 Combo

I think your decision just has to be based on what stuff you like to play. Do you like Vai's sound and nice rock tones, or do you like balls out rock and metal.
Nice legacy clip by the way.

Everyone rags on 5150's, but they sell for relatively cheap and can sound so heavy with a good rock tone too.
Everyone rags on it and it's cheap beacause it's a piece of crap! :laugh2:
