i heard a 5150 live today for first time. amazing tone. some local hard rock band was playing at my college today in this outdoor area of campus, and the guitarist was playin a PRS standard through a 5150. it had amazing crunch, the cleans he was gettin were ok, but not as bad as i have heard people talk about with regards to these amps.

so heres the deal, i have recently been lookin around at amps, but had never considered the 5150. what can you tell me about it, and about how much could i get a good condition used one for? also any other amps in this catagory that you like, feel free to speak up.

Re: peavey 5150

if you want a head/combo that can do cleans and high gain for not a lot of money, look up the Ampeg VL503 combo or 502 head. They're 50 watts, though, so they might not be it if you need 100 watts.

It's a very obscure, underrated amp.

Re: peavey 5150

How many people REALLY need 100watts? For distortion guys the answer is pretty close to none. Besides the rel world volume diff is pretty minimal...its only in headroom that you will really hear anything.

That Ampeg that you mention is a great amp. :cool3:

5150 combo! better cleans, biased warmer, and only 60 watts!!

Re: peavey 5150

yeah the 100 watts is much, probably would need a thd hotplate or somethin of that sort with it. any other suggestions of good (and possibly lower wattage) alternatives?
