Re: PEAVEY 6505(5150) Opinions/clips?

Well yes it is just a re-badged 5150... As for gain/loudness, it has enough to kill a large dog from 40 feet away! Anything past 2 oclock on the gain setting it turns to fuzzy and mushy sounding for me. And the clean channel is some what limited in its tonal range, doesnt sound that lively to me, bit "plain" sounding.

That being said for the money you could pick up an older 5150 its good money value, and if you put a noise gate in front off the amp and dial it in correctly you can get some wild yet controlable distorted tones from this beast.

No clips, but I've played a 5150 on many many occaisions. ****ing amazing amps! Perfect midrange, and they just sit perfectly in a band mix. Plenty of gain, tons of clarity, and a great brown crunch sound.

Re: PEAVEY 6505(5150) Opinions/clips?

One more thing, my old 5150 went through output tubes like no other amp i have ever owned! You can tell when this happens the sound goes thinner and scatchy sounding. Also with a drop in power.

I DIDN´T understand your last post

Sorry i sold my 5150 years and years ago, no sound clips sorry.

I pushed my head really hard and it just ended up blowing output tubes quite fast, couple of sets a year.... from what i hear its a common thing with the 5150.

Sorry, didnt mean blowing whole sets as such, usual one sometimes two tubes, but when that happened i replaced all for output tubes with a matched quartet.

Re: PEAVEY 6505(5150) Opinions/clips?

Re: PEAVEY 6505(5150) Opinions/clips?

Have you tried listening to any of the Van Halen albums from For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge to Van Halen III?

Re: PEAVEY 6505(5150) Opinions/clips?

hUM nO ERIK, I GUESS he uses too much effects like reverb and other processing and it gets difficult to hear just the amp´s distortion as i want
plus, i need some metal riffage !
Q:)

Re: PEAVEY 6505(5150) Opinions/clips?

Ok, well, listen to two songs of Balance. Big Fat Money and Aftershock. Sure, there's some chorus but the sound isn't that much different without it. On Van Halen III, Fire in the Hole is killer. I used to own one of the first run of 5150's too. Great amp and I wish I didn't get rid of it.

Re: PEAVEY 6505(5150) Opinions/clips?

At the Ted Nugent concert I went to, he was using 5150's and the gain sounded really damn high, MUCH higher than he was using on his albums. It sounds insane, not sure if its metaly tho, to my ears it sounded like just a great hard rock tone, Ala judas priest or Van halen.

I think a 6505 would be better for ya WFD!

Just so you know...the 5150 and the 6505 are the same amp...

Yeah, TS9's and EMG's are what really make metal tones, IMO. The EMG's give it insane sustain and clarity, while the TS9's make them sit a bit better in a mix, saturates the sound more so you can lower gain, which increases clarity and decreases noise, as well as giving it a killer low end and mid sound.
