I'm curious as to what brands of tubes you all have had good luck with. And what tonal differences you have achieved.

Right now, I have all JJECC83S pre amp tubes with Ruby 6L6GCMSTR power tubes. It's a bit bright sounding at lower volumes, and at band practice volumes it smoothes out a bit, and the low end pretty much takes over. I'm running it through a mess boogie traditional 4x12 with stock v30s.

Also, I think I have too many buffered pedals running into the front of the amp. A dunlop jh1 wah, ts9, ns2 and a polytune sey to true bypass.

There is a handful of pretty good YouTube videos about tonal differences with this amp, as well as the 5150 ii.

They outline tube choices pretty well.

I've watched a lot of em, some good, some bad, but I really respect the opinion of you guys on here.

I have only owned mine for a week now, so I can't really help with different tones out of different tubes yet.

I'll tell you this amp with the JJ's that are in it sounds magical. That's all I know.

Hopefully some other guys with more experience can chime in. As I'd like to learn more as well.

From what I gather, the JJ 6L6GC's are definitely a favorite for metal guys. And a Tung-Sol 12AX7 in V1 atleast. For the most part, that combo is very popular, and the rest of the preamp section is highly debated.

I'm thinking JJ 6L6GC's and a Tung-Sol in V1, JJ ECC83S's in V2 and V3, then maybe some EH 12AX7's and a Mullard phase inverter.

I will continue to dig, as I've blown my music budget for the near future. Hate when that happens lol
