Peavey Bandit 112 (Blue/Teal Stripe - Solo Series, Made in USA)

Hello!

I have an old Peavey Bandit 112 (Blue/Teal Stripe - Solo Series, Made in USA) combo.

I have ruined the original Scorpion speaker that was built in, it burned out and it's also ripped. So I'll be gettin a new 12" speaker replacement, 8 ohms.

What would you suggest? I play Heavy Metal, old school (Metallica, Iron Maiden...), my guitar is tuned to standard tunning. I liked the gain sound I got from the Bandit throught that Scorpion but now I'd like a speaker which has more defined sound and some more low end and high end, maybe less middle, so more suitable for Metal by design.

Also, I want ti to be louder (it was too quiet for rehearslas with drums), I think Scorpion's sensitivity ways 99dB (I'm not sure though), so I'd like a speaker with at last 103dB (or more!) and good amount of wattage (so that I don't ruin it again).

What speaker should I get?

Thank you!

What is your budget?

Eminence or Warehouse Guitar Speakers will probably be the best bang for the buck, but a new speaker is probably going to cost more than the amp is worth.

You could go with a monster like this, similar to a EV12 - http://www.eminence.com/speakers/speaker-detail/?model=Legend_EM12

Or the hemp version - http://www.eminence.com/speakers/speaker-detail/?model=HempDog_12

Or maybe the Swamp Thang - http://www.eminence.com/speakers/speaker-detail/?model=Swamp_Thang

Or the Wizard - http://www.eminence.com/speakers/speaker-detail/?model=Wizard

I think you want a Swamp Thang. They're almost all lows and highs but not lacking in mids. I use a 2x12 with Swamp Thangs as a bottom cab with a 4x12 loaded with Celestion Hot 100s, and the Celestion cab provides thick mids while the Swamp Thangs are almost subwoofer-like in comparison. Floor rattling lows.

My buddy put a Cannabis Rex in his Bandit 75
It has a dark British flavor to my ears
Oh and he doesn't open it wide open
I don't think the speaker is rated as high as the amp

Come to think of it he has moved the CRex to a Classic 30 and the Blue Marvel from the C30
Over to the bandit

Nevermind

Eminence Wizard or a Swamp Thang. Both heinously loud.

Also consider the Celestion K100 for a bassy, big response.

My amp tech suggests this one:

Celestion G12H 150 redback

What do you think? I don't want to spend a fortune on my old Bandit's replacement speaker...

Does anyone know what is the wattage and sensitivity of the original Scorpion speaker that came in the Solo Series teal stripe Bandit 112?

I would suggest getting your google out and playing with it.

FWIW, the Scorpion is rated at 400W and the sensitivity is 94.9dB, the one your tech suggested is 150W and 100db, and, one of the most expensive speakers they make (go figure). Where are you? If you aren't in the US, then some speakers may be more difficult to get.

Here's the Scorpion specsheet - https://assets.peavey.com/literature/specs/1153_26350.pdf

In the US, the Eminence Swamp thing or Wizard are cheaper than the Celestion Redback and are great speakers and should get you where you want to be. Personally, I would have trouble spending that much on a replacement speaker for a Bandit, any of them are worth more than the amp itself. If it were me I would definitely be shopping ebay, reverb, or other places to find something used.

Used bandits are less than $200
Swamp Thang is $89

If you like your Bandit
Then get an speaker
Some one on here put a Cr75 or some such Eminence in theirs and loved it
It's about $50

Not saying he shouldn't, but the link he posted was in German and the price of the speaker was 149 euros, that sounds a little steep for a Bandit.

Re: Peavey Bandit 112 (Blue/Teal Stripe - Solo Series, Made in USA)

Well yes of course
But the Bandit may not be super cheap there either

Over here, my buddy got his 75 for $45 with free shipping from New York city

UPS thumped.it sideways on his driveway and split

Box was smashed, amp was spilling out

Plugged in and it played great

He wanted to repair his scorpion too

He didn't replaced with Eminence

The Eminence CR75 would sound fine
