Peavey Classic 20

Re: Peavey Classic 20

It sounds nothing like any Fender or Marshall I've ever played although there is a lot of variation between their models as well.

A very warm and sweet amp compared to both brands typical tones.

Re: Peavey Classic 20

ya if anything they sound closer to a VOX.... but yes they have a sound of their own

Re: Peavey Classic 20

I had both the Classic 20 and 30 back in the 90s. I agree that the 30 was on the Vox side, but not the 20. To my ears, the 20 was closer to a small Fender, but definitely hotter. Looking back, I think I liked the 20's dirt sound better than the 30's dirt, but the 30 was better for cleans.

Re: Peavey Classic 20

thanks for the replies. i'm asking because i'm wondering how it would sound with a brit-voiced speaker -- i've got an eminence ramrod coming so i guess i'll find out -- i've got an old bassman speaker in it now and it sounds pretty good, but i'm curious. plus it could use some more volume and i'm thinking the ramrod will help with that -- we'll see........

ps-- i've had the C20 and the C30. i never could warm up to the C30, but I love the C20. I'm actually also thinking about setting the chassis into a 2x12 cabinet -- do anyone know anyone who's done that?

i could of bought one of these C20's from Peavey back in the mid 90's for $150.... it was a damaged repaired item they had kicking around the warehouse.... at the same place they had a PA that could do arenas like NYC's MSG on skids that were for sale to anyone willing to truck it away.... i miss that place and my contacts there...!!! saddly the guy i knew passed on...

Re: Peavey Classic 20

I haven't seen that, but I saw one that was made into a head with multiple outputs.:scratchch

i blew mine up a few months ago and when i got it fixed, my tech put in a new OT (which i had burned out by turning on the amp without a speaker plugged in. duh) from weber that has 8-ohm and 4-ohm outputs - it's no longer a 16 ohm amp, which is a good thing - so anyway i'm really thinking about reconfiguring it to a 2x12 layout for more volume and bass - at this point it's putting out 18 watts so it could be a bluesbreaker-ish amp
