I know these are the top contenders for the low cost, all tube, bluesy-classic rock crunch, amp of amps.

I'm curious as to which you guys thought topped the other, which had the best tones available, most potential with mods, best as stock, most gain headroom, best cleans, smoothest tones, features, etc.

So whats you're pick? Traynor YCV or the Peavey Classic? Or another of similar price???

Fender Blues Deluxe - get an analogman ts-9 modded to 808s specs with it, and it will blow any of those other contenders away. problem is, the blues deluxe is discontinued, and they arent all that reliable. but if you can find a good one, go for it.

i think im going to get a new hot rod deluxe with that ts-9. to me, clean channel is way more important, and i can do all i want with the ts-9 with it.

if you dont want any pedals, i'd say peavey classic 30/50. whichever you like.

Re: Peavey Classic 30/50 vs. Traynor YCV 40/80

How about the Blues Jr.? I haven't played the others recently so I can't dis or praise them, though I remember good vibes & have heard good things about both of them. All I have to say is my Blues Jr. with a little tube & speaker mod makes me very happy on a daily basis. Isn't that what it's all about? I say try'em all out, your ears are what matters. Good luck.

Peace,

Darrin

Re: Peavey Classic 30/50 vs. Traynor YCV 40/80

eh, blues jr, blues deluxe, hot rod deluxe, hot rod deville, blah blah blah

i havnt actually tried them all out yet. im looking at the hot rod deluxe because its a good live amp. how many watts is the blues jr? its name sounds tiny. im not big into micing(sp) amps

the traynor has a good clean, but the fender beats it in that area. the peavey has the best distortion hands down, but the worst cleans.

thats how i see it anyway

Re: Peavey Classic 30/50 vs. Traynor YCV 40/80

i voted classic 30. i love mine, and i nail the tones you want. also, for mods, it can be modded to many unbelievable things....

Re: Peavey Classic 30/50 vs. Traynor YCV 40/80

I recommend the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. 40 watts, 1X12.
If you want something that won't sterilze you when you turn the volume above 4 then try the Fender Blues Jr. It's 15 watts through a 1X12.

+1 Couldn't have said it better.

It sounds like iDunnodmang really doesn't know. :smack: His description of the classic 30 is nothing like either of my 2 classic 30s one is modded one is not.

Yeah, sweet lou, I had a scathing rebuke to his Fender this, Fender that, blah, blah, blah, but I withdrew. I guess the point is if you don't know what the F=-k your talking about you shouldn't talk. Sorry, but I'm tired of this sh!t!

Re: Peavey Classic 30/50 vs. Traynor YCV 40/80

sorry but i dont think the fender clean compares to that of a classic 30.

simple enough?

Huh?

Re: Peavey Classic 30/50 vs. Traynor YCV 40/80

let me rephrase it even more

i prefer the clean sound of a fender hot rod deluxe to the clean sound of a peavey classic 30 or 50

since when is it a sin to have an opinion? my words arent law

EDIT: when i said the peavey had the 'worst' cleans, i meant i prefferred the traynor and fenders clean to that of the peavey. its not bad, by any means.

double edit:

i havnt tried out the blues jr yet, is what i meant. ive tried out the traynor ycv40 and both the peavey classic series and the fenders.

EDIT:

i cant spell 'peavey' for some reason. always comes out as pevay or peavy or peevey or peevay.

Re: Peavey Classic 30/50 vs. Traynor YCV 40/80

I'd take the Peavey 30 overall. The Traynor is a powerful amp and it's more rock than clean and blues oriented.

I really loved the tweed Blues Jr. I played the other day. Just stripped, barebones, great tone. Loved the sparkly cleans at low volume and how they broke up nice... I could see that being on a lot of records and people not even knowing it.

Fender Hot Rod Deluxe... hmmm, keep trying them out, but I just can't get into them at all.

Re: Peavey Classic 30/50 vs. Traynor YCV 40/80

Classic 30 and 50 both use 4 EL-84s. The 50 has a slightly higher voltage to the output tubes so it has a bit more power. The Classic 50s I have worked on have about 38 watts output after new tubes are installed. The 50 is slightly overrated on output

Another amp to look at is the V-Series and the VFX5212 is a great combo which uses EL-34s and has a fantastic OD channel with good useable effects. I also like the the V3112 which is 30 watts from a quartet of EL-84s.

IMO the V-series aren't worth the amount of money you pay for. They tack on a couple hundred for all those damn built in effects.

I have a Peavey Classic 50, and the owners manual with a schematic in it. I can find two 6L6GC tubes, but no EL-84s. The pre-amp section has transistors, mostly SPS 953. Would this be a year-manufactured kind of thing? I don't know what year it is, but it looks old.

Re: Peavey Classic 30/50 vs. Traynor YCV 40/80

I played Brisk's Traynor 40 and I was blown away!! I loved it!! I havent played the others though.

That's strange. I have a '94 classic 50 4x10 and it has 4 EL84's and 3 12AX7's.

I love the cleans on my classic 50. I've owned it for 8 years and I have no plans to change. There's probably a more expensive amp out there that's better, like a matchless or a fender, but I really love my peavey for cleans. Great warm reverb too. Although right now I'm a little pi$$ed at it because I stumped my toe with it when I was moving it away frome the wall :laugh2: .
