Hey everyone whos had experiance with the classic 30. Would you be able to suggest some sweet settings for my new amp? Both channels please, Its sounding great but I'm sure you guys know some great settings that'll help me learn how to use my new amp a lot better.

Oh and I'll just tell you about it. I got it second hand for $700 AUD, all the tubes are 1 month old, but are crappy sovitek, so i'll end up changing to JJs or something once they get old. Its got stock speaker and the guy put wheels on it and a new handle. Its in awsome condition.

I just got home from a jam were i used my Classic 30 combo..... I set the amp up to try and get some lows out of it... I used a Tele style guitar with Duncan 59 humbuckers in it.... Settings i normally use with this amp is Treble around 6-7, Mid at 5-6, Low all the way up, Reverb on 2, Post up as loud as i need it and Pre i set anywhere between 6-12..... I cut the pre back a lot the louder i crank the amp as the power tubes add lots of dirt when pushed....

I generaly find this setting works good for either the distortion channel and the clean channel... Sometimes when i add my sealed back ext cab i cut the low knob back a bit as that ext cab adds some lows greatly!

I need new tubes for C30... and i'm thinking of trying a new speaker in it soon.... The stock speakers are ok but just for fun i thought i'd see what a better speaker would bring to the sound

Re: Peavey classic 30 users

I tried something on my C30 that helped to add a differant dimension to the amp:a Beam Blocker from Weber. It did a great job of dispursing the highs so they don't go straight to your ears. Really helped to calm the high end down somewhat.
Just in case you're not familiar with it, a Beam Blocker is a beam that's about 1" wide by 12 1/2" long witha 4" wide semi-dome in the center. This device goes inside of your cabinet with the semi dome facing the speaker cone. As mentioned, the highs are then dispurse in a manner as the lows and mids are: the highs fan out instead of straight at you.
A bit of care is needed when istalling a Beam Blocker. The beam is about .040 of an inch thick. You can't just put your speaker on top of it because it will rock back and forth, and if you try tightening it down you'll bend the speaker frame. You'll first have to cut out some of the gasket material on your speaker itself so the beam will lay even with the gasket material.

Mike M.... ya you are right about the C30 having peircing highs..... Never heard of this Beam Blocker thing..... Sounds right out of Star Trek..... I'll have to check that thing out... This Beam Blocker thing does not sound like it would last the test of time gigging? .040 thin?

While jamming last night i played an old James Gang riff.... The Bomber.... Man that C30 had that sound down! We were recording to a computer last night with these crazy little mics my buddy got off EBAY for $20 each.... these mics are meant to clip onto your shirt to record your voice... A friend of my friend turned him onto them as he records a saxiphone with them... Made a great guitar mic!

WhoFan, the beam itself is made out of steel that's about 1'' wide by .040 thick. The semi-dome is a 4" diameter that's attached to the beam itself. That .040 thick beam will outlive you and me combined, believe me.

Re: Peavey classic 30 users

i have no such problems with the high end of my classic 50 but then again its a 4x10 combo with loads of bass.
maybe an extension cab might help.ALOT

The Classic 50 is a little different sounding then the Classic 30... I have a C50 as well as a C30... The C50 has more lows....

Re: Peavey classic 30 users

That beam blocker thing sounds radical. I just bought a C30 off the 'bay. Vintage tweed is sweet man. When I hooked it up, the reverb caused all kinds of noise. Bad tube? Anyway, planning on retubing with J/J tubes.
Anyone know of a good dealer for J/J's (had to qualify that)....
