Peavey Delta Blues for $350?

I've been looking at getting a smaller combo tube amp and I had decided on either a Peavey Classic 30 or a Peavey Delta blues with 15in. speaker. I was leaning more towards the Classic 30 but I went in to my local shop today and there is a used Peavey Delta Blues that looks brand new, a very nice amp, for only $350! Is this a pretty good deal or should I still wait and see if i can find a good deal on a Classic 30?

I'm no expert in my opinion, but if you have one sound in your head, wait until you can get THAT. If you tried it, and its ANYTHING less than what you want it to be, don't get it. You'll just end up spending more money on what you want later. Example: I have a crappy Peavey practice amp. I want a Carvin V3. I'm waiting until I can get that. No exceptions.

Well I have not played either of these yet to know, I was planning on going in later this week and testing it out.

I have had the 2x10 version for about 7 years and I don't need another amp. Real nice fender cleans and it has tremolo with it.

the classic 30 and delta blues are pretty similar

To clearify though, I just mainly wanted to know... Is $350 a good price for this amp?

Re: Peavey Delta Blues for $350?

I went up to the shop today with my guitars and pedals and played the amp for quite a while and I love it! The cleans are awesome! I wasn't expecting much from the gain channel but it was much more heavey and crunchy then I would have thought, I like it alot! I don't think the tubes are original but I'm not sure what comes stock in these amps, it has electro-harmonix and sovtek tubes in it, they sound great! Its on hold for me at the shop until I have the rest of the money, I can't wait until I can take it home.

If that is the 1x15 Delta then you'll be very happy for a long time with that amp. I've played the Classic 30 for quite a while, and even though it does cut nicely through a mix the Delta has that extra fullness, more low end and a smoother top end than the C30 has. $350, if it's in great shape, is a worthwhile investment for sure. That's about the going rate.

One caveat however, the tubes have a tendency to rattle. Check into a tube tamer. There are free designs on the web to make your own for just a buck or two.

Re: Peavey Delta Blues for $350?

Yes it is the 115. I had heard people saying that the tubes rattle in the classic and the delta blues so I had already planned on buying a tube tamer after I get it. I'll look into making my own, Thanks for the suggestion!

OK, about average if it's in excellent shape, to judge from prices I see where I am. They don't come up that often. A 2x10" is on local CL for $325 at the moment.

About six years ago, I wanted one of these so bad I thought I was going to have a fit, but there were none at local dealers. A guy who did regional warranty service for Peavey said he was seeing a lot of output transformer problems on them, especially on ones that were actually gigged with. Same with the Classic. He recommended against the amps, so I passed.

Dunno if this ever got corrected or what.

In that most amps bought never get out of the bedroom, a lot of design weaknesses never show up until the amp passes to someone who's actually gigging with it regularly and driving it hard enough to tell what it's really made of.

I still like the way they look.

I someday envision putting something like a Fender Deluxe clone into that TV front kind of box.
And this cab to go with it:

Sounds like a good deal on a good amp.
What is a tube tamer? What does it do? Where do you get them? How much do they cost?

Try google or search ebay and you'll have your answer.

You can also get a piece of conduit, 2 springs and some rubber o rings from Home Depot and make your own for less than $5.
