As huge fan of skynyrd nation I got interested in Gary's rig. Anybody has the experience with his sig or maybe the standard penta series ?
I used to find them in local Peavey dealers (maybe some warehouse sort) bot nb paid any notice to them.

I'm also a Skynyrd fan. If you really want the old Skynyrd tone find an old Peavey Mace, it nails the Skynyrd tone and that is what they used,
the story was they went to Hartley Peavey and asked for the amp he had that sounded the most like a Marshall and the Mace is what they ended up with,
My father in law has one he bought new in the 70s and he occasionally digs it out and let's me play it.
I rip Skynyrd riffs for hours! It's spot on!
The last time I saw them their tone was way different now than it was back in the day. Rickey Medlocke kinda plays with some serious Marshall EL34 balls.
He sounded much more like Slash tone wise than Steve Gaines or Allen Collins. The reason I am saying this, is the Peavey Penta is very Marshall sounding, I am sure it's based off of the Winsdor which is a Marshall. The Peavey Classics also nail that classic Skynyrd tone but from what I've heard from the Penta and the Butcher you'd be better off going with a Peavey Classic Series for that swampy southern rock outlaw country sound. The Classic comes in several models depending on your needs. If I am wrong about your needs and you are going after a more modern Skynyrd live tone then any Marshall sounding amp will do the trick and the Pentas, Butchers and Windsors are pretty nice amps for the money. You can find Windsors super cheap where I live. $450 US for a half stack.

I've seen some Windors on Europe trade portals eg. eBay, but I haven't any experience with them. 450 bucks for half stack seems gorgeous, but in fact I have one half stack at my company and I'll focus only on the head ;) The problem is that it's hard to find any Peavey heads you mentioned with nonUS voltage (220-240 V). I've played some Classics, nice clean, but imo dirty channel is awful. I know Gary is connected with Hartley's inventions for years, I've always been sure that Peavey is TOTALLY not sounding Marshall way - surprise! Some models does. :) Rickey's stage amp for now is the Wizard one, yeah ?

I really liked the Penta; I'm surprised it disappeared so quickly from Peavey's lineup. Pure rock.

The last few times I have seen him play, Rickey has been using a JCM800.

You hear so much from these guys on interviews like most bands they make crap up to throw folks off.
Skynyrd was just in town where I live in Kentucky and I saw Marshalls and a Peavey Triple X on stage this time.

Rickey Medlocke has always played Marshalls, he especially loves hot rodded JCM800s.

I will say this, I am from the South, I grew up on Southern Rock and Outlaw Country. I've been listening to Skynyrd since I was old enough to know what music was.
That being said, Skynyrd in the studio sounds waaaay different than Skynyrd live and since Sparky and Rickey joined they sound way different.
The Peavey Classics sound sweet if you do some work to them. Transformers, tubes, caps etc.. The Classics are the closest thing to the Mace that Peavey still makes.
In the Gibson interview Gary states that he still records with Maces and that he mixed them with Marshalls because the Mace had a better low end..
I'm kind of a JCM800 Plexi fan. I can pick Marshall EL34 balls out of a mix anywhere.. I gravitate towards that tone lol!
Hopefully those links help you some.
I was unaware of the voltage not being available for you in Europe, I keep forgetting that y'all run on 50 cycles over there.

Peavey seems to struggle with signature stuff after EVH left. It's just sad that most people shy away from Peavey amps.
They have this stigma to them unless it's metal and a 6505. Sad too, they make nice stuff and if you mod the Classics they sound fantastic!
