Peavey Wolfgang - EXP Vs Special?

I'm probably gonna break down and buy a Peavey Wolfgang.

The problem is that I really like the look of the Korean quilt top Wolfies, however the snob in me wants the Amercian made special. IMO, the solid colours and burst on the special are just OK.

Now price is an issue, so I can't really stretch to a standard or the flame special. I also know the Korean model has diff pickups, neck finish, graphite supported neck, etc.

So has anybody play both and what's your take on them?

Their both really good guitars
I have an EXP.

P.S. Check your PM's...

Re: Peavey Wolfgang - EXP Vs Special?

I had a Wolfgang special, unfortunately playing this guitar caused some wierd strain on my shoulder so I sold it and now have a Parker Deluxe. Specials are great bang for the buck, I was dissappointed when I got rid of mine. However, the standard is another level of quality. I don't know what used standards are going for, but I would go look for a used standard if cost is an issue. My favorite color is black cherry w/the tan binding.

I'd be happy with either, but if i got the korean one, the pups would have to go along with the cheaper floyd when i got the cash..

Rid plays a korean wolfie with some hybrid pup (screamin demon + 59?) in the bridge and an alnico pro in the neck, and put a real floyd on it.

you'll probably find clips in the tips n clips room :)

I wouldnt be surprised if i got a Korean Wolfie one day. I played it and loved it. I thought the pups were good, but this is coming from someone who has very little experience with after market pups. Just wondering, if an OFR is put on, can the D-tuna from the stock floyd be put onto that? I like the idea of that.

...I've been really digging that body style for a while now. I think when it comes time to drop the hammer on one though (if my Kramer ever sells) I'll build my own from Warmoth. They have a very sweet Wolfgang body in the showcase right now...

When it comes to it.

They are both very good guitars.

The bridge in the USA ver. is higher quality, but the EXP ver.'s is still good.

The exp has grover tuners and the floyd is pretty solid + the locking nut.
The EXP's sound is very good imo too. I even prefer it over my JB/59 set. I dont know why, Just do...
