pedal board advice

I'm on a pretty tight bugdet. So I need a pedal board that has the best bang for the buck. I originally wanted to get a Boss BCB-60 because I liked the fact that it had its own power supply and came with its own cables (saves me money) but some of you guys told me it was a really terrible board. I've been playing for awhile and am a half decent guitar player but I've always shyed away from using effects, so my knowledge of pedal boards, quality of pedal boards, what to look for etc etc is pretty low.

I want a pretty basic pedal board that carries about 6 pedals. I still have to buy a couple more pedals soon but eventually my board will be like this...

Fender PT100 Tuner, Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive, Boss Chorus, Boss NS-2 Noise Suppressor, and Boss DD-3 Delay. Fairly simple.

Anything that comes with cables etc is a plus.

I'd generally like to keep the price at about $180 or lower. Can ya help me out?

Re: pedal board advice

Go to home Depot and buy a shelf board. That will cost you about 5 to 10$. Then buy some George L cables and connectors so you can hook up your effects to each other. The pedalboard kit will cost about 50$ If you want to get a little more adventurous, you can drill holes through the board and wire it from underneath. Depending on the effects you use will determine how to power it. I use a Boss DD3 delay,a CE2 chorus, and a Tubescreamer. These run straight in, but if your amp has an effects loop it will require a different setup. I power my whole board with a one spot. The one spot kit which has several adapters for some odd power supplied pedals runs about 30$. So for under 100$ you can setup your own board pretty well. You can also add some non slip feet to the bottom and of curse velcro to hold the pedals down. This is a pic of mine. I still use this, its a 2 amp setup. The top row goes to one and the lower section goes to another. This is a little more involved than I described, but if you only have a few pedals it should be pretty simple to do and pretty cheap also.

Re: pedal board advice

1spot is a power supply made by visual sound (look it up)

its basically a standard size plug with a long lead for connecting a pedal too. and with a 9v daisy chain adapter (you cna get adpaters for every type of pedal) you can power around 20 pedals or something.

i have one and its really good, i've only tested my visual soud jekyll & hyde pedal; and a few boss pedals in a chain but all work perfect with a standard 9v daisy chain cable.

also, it jsut means you dont have a massive power 'brick' with only 5 connections on it for the same price.

Bludave,
Is that a echoplex niple i see next to Spina Screamer? and what is that all stuff on the "first floor"?

Re: pedal board advice

I went the home depot route. I found some plywood in the garage added some risers and purchased some George L cables and can wire everything under the board. The most I've spent on everything was 120 for 2 wiring kits and about 30 in hardware and paint for the board.

Re: pedal board advice

Home made is definatly the way to go if you ask me. You can buy a nice power supply like the One Spot and a good cable set like George L's for roughly half what the budget boards go for and your getting better quality cable as they use some really cheap stuff in the premades

There are some nice boards out there but the prices are rather crazy, SKB's latest and greatest is what $499 list price I think ? maybe $399 actual selling price then ?

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'd rather have that few hundred dollars buy me a few more PEDALS to go on the actual board

Re: pedal board advice

Personally the only way I would have a premade board is if I were touring. Even then it would be something really nice that would keep my stuff well protected, but for a bedroom player like me I can drill some holes and stick velcro on. If I don't rush it I can make it look pretty good too. Plus with homemade you get something that will work the best for your setup.

Re: pedal board advice

look up TKL Pedal boards

there boards are pretty good and a descent price, but youll need a 1spot anad cables.

its basically a suitcase that splits in half the you get a storage compartment for leads/1spot etc.

then then you have velcro for your pedals.

Re: pedal board advice

Check out the SKB boards at GC. I got mine for $229. I know that is $50 more than you wanted to spend but, the thing is a tank. It came with all the power cables, 3 outlets for your wall warts for odd pedals, the velcro to put on the bottom of the pedals, top quality latches to keep the lid attatched and it is stereo. I had some noise when I first got it, called cust service and got right through to a tech who knew what I did wrong.

How is that case? is it sturdy?

The picture is kind of old. I've changed it a bit. The larger black box is a DOD TR3, at the time it was the only floor type of effect that did not suck the tone out of my Marshall when I ran it into the effects loop. Right next to this id=s a Marshall Bluesbreaker that I still use with my Marshall. The top row runs into a Fender Super Reverb (at the time). Its a CE2, DD3, and a Spina TS9. The right of that is the Reverb on/off and Vibrato on/off for the Fender. The right of that is a Morley A/B/Y to switch between the Marshall and the Fender.

Re: pedal board advice

I use 2 boards, 1 of these http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Core-Equipment-Pedal-Board?sku=155510 and another empty, flat one I got from Sam Ash.

I use the one above for all my stomp boxes. The flat one I use for my wah and Digitech whammy and also houses my power strip and my wireless receiver. If I can, I'll post some pics. Its been working out pretty good for me and having locking lids is nice, especially for storing and stacking.
