Pedal Modders! Care to help me with this?

As some of you remember I got a HAO "Sole Pressure" Overdrive pedal some months ago. It's a tweed style + low frequency booster. I love the sound of it, but there's one problem that I have to fix...

SolePressure.jpg

It has three modes that's selectable with a mini switch. Warm | Normal | Bright. The problem is that even with my Tele it get's too muddy and isn't very present sounding at the Warm and Normal modes... so I can basically only use the Bright mode. Which then again sizzles a little too much for single coils.

I don't wanna get rid of this pedal as I love the "core" sound of it, but it needs some tweaking. So I'm thinking about replacing some components in it to clear up the low frequencies some and making it a little more present sounding so that the warm and normal modes could be useful as well.

I don't have it here now but if I take some pictures in a couple of days of the innards could You help me with this? Maybe analyzing it and suggest what component to replace with what. I have no problem with soldering and such but I haven't modded a pedal before so I would need some help to get this done. Rid, B_Bent and other builders, tweakers? :)

Awsome! And damn you've gotten old Rid :laugh2:

I'll upload some pics as soon as possible. Might go a few days though, but I'll bump this thread again :)

Re: Pedal Modders! Care to help me with this?

Sorry Rid, but looks like pics won't be up before Saturday

You see the SolePressure is over at my parents house, about 100km away from where I live and study and all that. I will be visiting them on Saturday to Sunday, so I'll take the pics then and upload them. I can PM you so you don't miss them as I NEED your help on this one :D

Maybe even something we could name the "RidMod" for SolePressures are in the making... you'll never know how successful it'll be ;)

No problem bro!

I'll upload them and post links here in this thread. I can PM you about when the pics are up... but you'll notice when it bumps up as well. If you're in here as often as I am :smokin:

Wanna suggest some mods or are you thinking bout making a SP clone? :)

Re: Pedal Modders! Care to help me with this?

Well, maybe I could tell what its based on, as I've never heard of this pedal before. If its TS based, it'll be easy to suggest ways to possibly remedy that problem. But I'll check some soundclips tonight, I've got an exam in 45 minutes I'm procrastinating studying for, maybe I'd like one for myself.

Re: Pedal Modders! Care to help me with this?

Hehe, I'll come down to Aarhus to track you down if you trick me turning it into a flanger ;) :laugh2:

Well, here are the pics guys! Now let's see... Tell me if you need anymore or pics from other angles and I'll take some more. They are too big to show here so I just post the links.

Re: Pedal Modders! Care to help me with this?

Looks like a big black goop of epoxy is covering a "critical component". By the pics, it doesnt appear to be a TS-based pedal. I really cant tell from the photo's what is underneath that black dot, and that'd be the giveaway as to how to alter it. I'm sure if you felt like experimenting with some of the cap values, you could make it brighter, IIRC by lowering some caps.

Sorry I cant be of much help here, maybe Rid can give you the best advice. If nothing else, I'd try swapping some caps to decrease the low-end response. Sorry bro, wish I could help more than that. :smack:

Re: Pedal Modders! Care to help me with this?

Hmm the goop is annoying!!!
And I would have to hear it on a firsthand basis to get a good idea on what to do!
But with the goop in the way I would as Joelap mentioned, fool around with the different caps from the switcher.

Okay! A problem then. I don't know what the caps are and I don't have a clue which value I would need to replace them with...

So is it possible to remove the black goop in anyway without destroying the part/chip underneath it?

Re: Pedal Modders! Care to help me with this?

Ah yeah now that is the tricky part!
Well you can send it to me, and it will cost you the shipping only, and I will revoice it alittle to make it more useful for you.
I will of course keep the org parts and put them back if you hate the mod!
Would that work?

Re: Pedal Modders! Care to help me with this?

Ooh, that sounds like a killer offer Rid! :D

PM me your adress and I'll send it over to you. Like I said, it needs to be a tad more present sounding (especially on the warm and normal modes) and lesser low end boost.

Simply, I don't need the low end boost that this pedal does... only the tweedy overdrive.

Re: Pedal Modders! Care to help me with this?

The SolePressure takes a Holiday trip over to Rid in Denmark on Monday!

I report back when I get it back!
