i just got a new echolution delay pedal. Whats the best placement for it within my pedal order. should i put it before or after the overdrive? or should i go ahead and put it in the loop?:thanks:

Re: pedal order

I tend to like to put the overdrives and stuff like that with the line from the guitar to the amp. I put my time based effects, e.g., chorus, delays, etc., in the loop. I'm not sure if that's the best way, but it's my personal preference.

Re: pedal order

General rule is time-based effects after distortion. If you are getting distortion from your amp, put it in the loop.

Re: pedal order

I'd try it in the loop first but...

Use your ears and try it everywhere! You never know what you'll like best until you try it.

Re: pedal order

I hate delay in the loop...sounds too "blah" to my ears...
Try sticking it at the end of your chain and run it straight into the amp!

Re: pedal order

I hate everything in a loop...in fact I hate loops!!!

I out ALL my effects "up front" and this is my personal rule of thumb...

Pitch shifters first (Whammy, octave shifters (except octave/fuzz units...those go with the gain units), etc)

Then my wah pedal...BUT if I use an envelope filter/follower or an auto wah I put that AFTER the gain units and before the modulation effects...

Then I go to gain units (OD, boost, distortion, fuzz, etc)

Then modulation effects (chorus, flanger, and I even put phasers here too)

The I move on to delay and reverb...

Also, I put tremolo pedals in with chorus, flanger and phaser pedals

Now, thats just the way I do it and thats not the way I do it all the time but I think it's pretty good rule of thumb...

Re: pedal order

I use everything in front of my amp. I never cared for the sound of my effects thru the effects loop.

Try the delay at the end of your pedal chain. Thats where I have mine and it sounds great.

A BIG +1 to this and it's exactly how my board is setup (aside from a Mayer Fuzz at the start, but that's because of it's buffer :))
