Pedal power supply question...

I have a Danelectro Cool Cat Chorus that I'd like to rig up to my pedalboard, but I have a wee bit of a problem. With the exceptions of my Whammy pedal and m GT5 all my pedals are 9VDC, and this Cool Cat is 18VDC.

The pedalboard I use (SKB-PS35) has 6 power supply links with attachable cables that power the pedals and they all put out 9VDC. My question is... if I use TWO of these power cables going to one pedal, will that work to power it? I can run one power cable into the input near the in-out jacks, and link the other one to the battery terminal? I can do this cuz one of the cables goes from a mini plug to a 9V battery terminal connection; i use it with my wah. I just don't know if that will work electronically to supply the power.

Will 9V from 2 different power connections on the pedal work to supply 18V?

I don't think it will work that way. I think the internal electronics of the pedal will decide which ONE of the power supplies it uses. You can use two power supplies, but you will more or less ruin them. You can run them in series with each other, but I STRONGLY suggest, no demand, that you be familiar with electrical/electronics before you do it. You could fry your pedal or mess up your home's electrical system if you mess it up. But yes, it can be done.

I believe that whenever a power jack is plugged into a pedal, it internally disconnects the power coming from the battery connector. So I don't think the way you mentioned would work You can get 18v power supplies though, so maybe it'd be easier to just buy 1 for the Cool Cat.

What you're describing will definitely not work.

The 9-volts is all coming from the same place, just divided amongst different connectors. If you use two connectors, you'll just be dividing the current between two mechanical connections, which won't help. If you place them in series, you'ld be effectively shorting out the 9-volt supply.

You just need an 18-volt supply.

the voodoo lab pedal power 2 has the option to link two outputs to get 18v but im not sure of any others that do that

I was refering to connecting the hot from one to the common of the other then using the other two leads (common from the first and hot from the second) to connect to the plug that goes into the power supply jack on the pedal. It would work, but you'd better make sure it's hooked up right.

Either way, a new 18V supply is the best bet. :burnout:

I use the Juice Goose and it has both the 9 and 18 volt outs...You need the 18 volt outs!

Thanks guys... this is why i ask questions, so I don't start blowin' stuff up!! :laugh2:

I think this is another reason for me to switch to just a plain old hardcase board and get a multi-power supply. The PS35 has served me faithfully for a long time but I think its time for a change.
