Pedal Question - Mad Professor Golden Cello

Getting back into pedals through a tube amp (Fender Hot Rod Deluxe for reference.) I like the idea of a distortion pedal that gives a "bowing" quality to the tone but have read mixed reviews. Anyone have any experience with the Mad Professor Golden Cello?

I've jammed on one at GC a few times, and based on those times, I'd get one if I had the coin. Smooth overdrive and subtle, warm delay. It's a winning design, for sure.

That sounds awesome, thanks for the info!

Got the Mad Professor 1 and the Mad Professor Golden Cello...first thoughts are that the 1 rocks and the Golden Cello doesn't. Lol I can dial in the 1 pedal and really haven't found a setting combo I didn't like.

The Golden Cello is going to take some time trying to dial in...I was expecting more of an ebow type sound--like a bowed instrument. But it seems like it goes from a light Tube Screamer to ultra raunchy woth nothing good between...so far I see it as being a good rhythm drive sound, but was expecting a different sound from the demos I watched on it. Oh well, will just to work on dialing it in.

Suggestions?

I guess I'd try running it with the level high and the gain lower. I thought it was pretty smooth, but my take on smooth might be different. In any case, I don't think I'd try to use it as a stand alone gain source. I'd use it to support my amp's overdrive.

I really wanted to like the MPGC, but just couldn't get it to work for me. Neat concept, but I'm sticking with separate pedals for now.

Good luck.

Ah, well the gain channel on my Hot Rod Deluxe is not working right now--might just have to go ahead and drop it off at the shop to get repaired (needs some other work done.) I can see it working along another gain channel.

Thanks Bill, I really want to like it too as it was more expensive than my Metal Muff and Mad Professor 1. Lol I'll keep working with it.

Thanks!

Re: Pedal Question - Mad Professor Golden Cello

Well, I put the pedal up for sale/trade and then thought I should give it one last chance through my amp...well I am learning to enjoy it. I think the name is more appropriate to the Mad Professor "1" pedal; however, I have to say for rythm this is one cool pedal.

The only issue I have, and if anyone has any advice on this PLEASE chime in, is that a full chord is super powerful but picking a note out is very weak. But for a rhythm pedal this thing is really awesome...still misleading by the title though lol
