So, I recently received a gift certificate to Guitar Center and I'm looking to use it to get myself a new pedal...now the question is what pedal. :)

Current setup:

Guitar - Epi LP with P-Rails
Amp - Blackstar HT-5
Current Pedals - Danelectro Chicken Salad (although currently in the middle of doing a rehouse on it), TC Electronic Nova Repeater, Tech21 Boost RVB

A few different ideas have been floating around in my head:

1) Do something a bit different and get a Big Muff Pi with Tone Wicker for some fuzzy type goodness
2) Get something that might do more with lower gain settings than my amp does, like a Danelectro Transparent Overdrive
3) I've always wanted something with a bit of that Vox AC30 type sound so maybe a Tech21 Liverpool
4) And finally, something completely different...a Micro POG to play around with synth-like effects and octavey fun

I'm looking to stay under $100, so if you have other suggestions to look at around that price range then I'd love your feedback. And I know the Liverpool and Micro POG are over that price but they have a couple in the used section I might look into if I decide to go that route. I just can't decide what direction to go and would love to see what some of you guys would do.

Keep in mind, as much as I would prefer to go through someone else, it needs to be things available through GC.

Re: Pedal Suggestions

What kind of music do you play? I personally would love a POG because it would totally fit my style but that's just me. A lot of people would get a pedal like that and never really use it.

I'd suggest a chorus or flange, something to add a little texture to different parts of your songs and make them stand out. Maybe a nice phaser or some wacky ring modulater or something.

Depending on your style and what you need it for you might be better off with another dirt pedal though, so I don't know.

But you should still get the POG....

Re: Pedal Suggestions

another dirt pedal is always good. But how do you run your amp? Clean? Dirty? Do you switch between? It's really hard to say. If you get the OD, it's less expensive, then you could get a second pedal. Perhaps the dano Cool Cat fuzz, if you've got gas for a fuzz. It wont get you quite in the Muff zone, but it'll sound great. i love mine.

also, if you're rehousing that Chicken Salad, are you planning on adjusting the trim pot inside? it's a must-do mod for that pedal.

Re: Pedal Suggestions

The POG is a really sweet pedal . . . if there's any chance you'll use it, get it.

Re: Pedal Suggestions

My 10c is, depending on your style, either a wah wah or chorus/flanger style pedal are probably the most usable options on top of what you have.

If neither option floats your boat go for the POG.

Re: Pedal Suggestions

Thanks for your input. I like to play mostly the bluesier side of rock and classic rock, and I mess around a little bit with some Satch now and then. He's actually the inspiration for the POG...I'm not sure if you guys are at all familiar with "Super Colossal" but he used a POG on that song and I really dig what he created there.

I've thought about chorus but for a chorus I really want to do the BYOC Analog Chorus. I actually was planning on doing the BYOC Large Beaver at some point but I got a chance to play the Big Muff Pi with Tone Wicker and really liked it...I could go either way. So with the GC gift card I've been thinking about just going the Big Muff route.

As for wah's, I had one for years but never used it much...its not my thing so much.

I saw that a GC has a used Micro POG for $99 so perhaps I'll try to score that and if it doesn't work out then I'll do the Big Muff. Don't you guys take my POG! ;)

Re: Pedal Suggestions

Hey, if it doesn't work out then I'll buy it off ya.

For a tasty discount, of course. :naughty:

Re: Pedal Suggestions

pick up two electro harmonix nano pedals for the price of the BMP (or like 4 for the pog!)

my search for a really usable metal tone ended the day i bought a nano metal muff. i'll probably check out a nano muff overdrive when i have some spare money..

and build yourself a simple fuzz - you get a little electronics experience and a really tweakable little fuzz for less than a pub lunch :D
