looking into boards and cables for comming effects.

I will be running a Boss equalizer, dd3 and noise suppressor into my effect loop. What cables are good fro hooking all this up? Planet waves, monster etc...

thanks!

Re: pedalboards and cables..questions

if you can solder, i'd recommend making your own cables for your board. that way, your board will be nice and neat and you won't have any slack in your cables hanging all over the place. i know there's folks out there that make kits that come with some amount of cable and the connectors. you can also buy the cabling and connectors pretty much anywhere (GC, musicians friend, ect.) and they're pretty easy to make.

right-angle connectors are also pretty nice to have on pedal boards too, they just make less of a mess.

i do like the planet waves cables for the longer runs that go from my board to my amp. i've had a handful of them for the past 5 years or so, and they've been stepped on and thrown on the ground and all that stuff, and they're still holding up as well as they were on the first day.

I've always been very happy with planet waves cables too . . . been using them for six years with no failures!

George L cables. They are real easy to work with and for patch Chords and connecting the board to the loop they are excellent.

I'll second this, with one caveat: These solderless cables can become a problem pretty quickly if you're always hooking and unhooking them from pedals. If the connections will be semi-permanent, George L's are great.

I also use GeorgeL cables - but I have a problem with them in one location.

I have a A/B switch box (Switcheroo) built by B Bent that I have set up as an input - allowing me to select from two guitars. The output from the Switcheroo goes straight into a pedal tuner - positioned directly above it on the board.

I don't really know what the problem is, but intermittently the signal would die or drop to a lower level. I traced it to the output jack on the Switcheroo and did some adjusting of the power jack which sits close by and I thought might be shorting against each other. When the problem recurred, I switched out the GeorgeL cable for a Live Wire cable that I had picked up at Guitar Center to have as backups. I haven't had a problem since.

I'm thinking that the tight angles and the small motion from the guitar input cables may have put some kind of stress on the GeorgeL plug. The Live Wire plug is much beefier.

I don't know. I like the sound of the GeorgeL and the ability to make cables of any length - so I will continue using them and recommending them. But there may be situations where they are not the best choice.

Just get quality cables. If you must, get out the ohms tester and test them for which has better conductivity. Try them. So far I've got fender plastic-covered cables and a store-brand cloth-covered, and they work fine.

My tip: also, you can put a dab of conductive paint on the plug handle / tip threads to keep it from unscrewing on you.

As for ohms check, the CV-22 check is .0025 ohms or less.
