DOD 280A optical compressor clone: Home-made, etched and drilled the board myself, great components, cool little compressor, gets a little grit as you crank the knobs. This is a very smooth, very transparent compressor. Rust-o-leum enamel w/ racing stripes. Try to pretend like it's cool. $30 shipped. Honestly, you won't find a nicer sounding compressor at this price. I'm selling it for as much as it cost to make it.

SOLD!AMZ super bufferSOLD!

Aphex Guitar Xciter: Replaced boring red LED with White LED. Basically a sonic maximizer pedal. Works great after a distortion pedal, doesn't take over the tone of your rig. Can be very subtle if you dial it in correctly. $40 shipped.

Couple of price drops, and a bump.

Did I mention that I sourced the parts for these myself? Top-shelf stuff here. Metal film resistors, boxed film caps, few WIMAs, not a ceramic disc capacitor in sight. Cheaper than buying the kits. Already made, already tested, and ready to rock.

Happen to have any clips of the compressor? Is it a Ross style circuit? I've been looking at the Keeley compressor and the Maxon CP101, but could be interested in this one too if it's a similar circuit.

Nope! The ross is an OTA-based circuit, where as this one is based around an optocoupler.

I personally like optical compressors more than the ross-style compressors, simply because they're much more transparent. I've got one on my board right now, a design by john hollis called "the flatliner". This one is similar, though it gets a little grit when you crank the knobs. Its a pleasant, analog-sounding grit though.

If you're looking for a compressor as an "effect", then this one probably isn't for you. If you're looking for something to even things out a bit without coloring your tone, then this is a very nice choice ;).

I'll work on getting some soundclips done with these. Dunno if I'll have the time for a couple of weeks though.

Re: Pedals for sale: Boss DC-2, BYOC, home-made, and Aphex

Definitely not looking for one that colors the sound *too much*, just one that smooths things out and adds sustain. I'm not after an overly squashed tone.

Re: Pedals for sale: Boss DC-2, BYOC, home-made, and Aphex

That being the case...you might like this one. I'll see if I can't get a couple of little sound clips recorded tomorrow...I could do a quick recording here at home with my laptop and a cheap stereo mic that came with my computer (I've got my desktop at the studio right now, the band's using it to record our new demo).

I might be able to bring it down to the studio and do a quick take with the comp tomorrow as well...hell, I might as well bring down the rest of the pedals too. Depends on how much time I have though.

I built about 5 different compressors, looking for the right one. I built the BYOC compressor to both ross and dyna comp specs, the orange squeezer, the DOD280a, and the flatliner. The flatliner is my weapon of choice, but the 280a would have been otherwise.

Re: Pedals for sale: Boss DC-2, BYOC, home-made, and Aphex

Don't kill yourself trying to get clips :laugh2:, but I appreciate the thought. I'm still doing some reading and looking at clips online to get a better idea of what exactly I'm after.

Re: Pedals for sale: Boss DC-2, BYOC, home-made, and Aphex

haven't quite been able to get clips yet, but I got my computer back. As soon as I pick up a mic stand from the studio I should be in business.

Anyways, bump! I promise, they're good pedals. Built with hard working American hands. You wanna stimulate the economy, right?

Re: Pedals for sale: Boss DC-2, BYOC, home-made, and Aphex

Just found some old pictures of the chorus and the compressor. Better close-ups.

I know, the chorus is a little bit of a rat's nest. But with all those switches and knobs it would be hard for it NOT to ;).

Re: Pedals for sale: Boss DC-2, BYOC, home-made, and Aphex

BYOC chorus sold! I'm still working on getting those clips up...I gotta do the last of my acoustic guitars for my band's demo first :laugh2:. Been puttin that one off for about a week.

Interested in trading the DC-2 with a Vantage Analog Echo Machine Rack?
