Re: Pedals To Compliment The Only One I've Ever Owned.
Sheesh!! If I had Almost 4 grand to spend, Id buy a Friedman BE Amp and not a pedal..
Some good advice in this thread.
Best advice is to avoid youtube demos. Often times, you may be digging the sound of the amp or something else the may be using and get the pedal and find it wasnt the tone you were hearing. OR, they often will use other pedals too.
Alot of pickup demos will do that. Add effects or post production to make things sound much different or better than the tone youll get.
(this may be a repeat of something already said or implied, but my .02)
Try to get an understanding of the tone you want and then look at pedals that deliver that tone.
A) In the beginning, I didnt really have any clue what pedals did what. I thought I "needed" a flanger, but what I needed was a Phaser. (or visa versa)
B) Or, I bought what I heard used on recordings and that artists I liked use and I cant get the same result cuz I dont have the chops or other parts of the set up.
C) I used to buy pedals based on such and such (buddies, famous players, salesmen) saying this is the best one for this type of tone or... Only to find they didnt work for me. Example being a Bad Horsie Wah. My buddy rules with his, but I like to be able to leave my wah in partial position sometimes. So, try to try first or investigate .
So, like many others have said, Ive sunk alot of money into pedals I dont even use.
AND... this obviously doesnt apply to you since you have been play 22+ years with only one pedal, but advice for any newer player.. Stay light on the pedals until you develop chops and then let pedals enhance that or help creativity.
In the beginning, I knew a couple of chords and covered it in a wash of effects. I could impress some non players, but I didnt develop any real playing skills. I finally got wise and kept the pedals off and concentrated on learning to play.
Im still very novice at best sadly, but at least Ive improved..
