Pegasus & Sentient 6 string for Rock?

Anybody have any experience to share about the 6 string version of the Pegasus & Sentient?

The Idea that the Sentient has best DNA from 59 and Jazz is particularly appealing?

The Pegasus is meant to have clarity under lots of gain, does that make it one of those pickups that sounds cold and clanky in a (ts overdrive & plexi / AC30) medium gain situation?

I had a Pegasus 6 and a in my PRS for a while and currently have a Pegasus 7 in my Chapman. I never used it in the context you're wanting, but I can say that I've never gotten a "cold" sound out of it. For what it is, it's actually pretty warm for what it is. I think it's in the mids. The high mids are smoothed out and the low mids are brighter.

The Sentient 7 can get a bit brittle depending on your settings, though. I don't like it through a crunch setting. It fairs much better under more gain or totally clean, in my opinion.

I have a set currently being installed in an ibanez sca220. I play the same basic styles. Although I've been thinking about having them tune it to C while they're at it, just for the heck of it.

Nobody has much to say about these pickups?
I wonder; are they not really taking off? :dunno:

I've got a Pegasus 6 but unfortunately the guitar build I'm putting it in is not yet complete. I'm still applying finish coats.

No, it doesn't seem they are. At least not the six string versions. Which is a shame, because the Pegasus and Sentient are superb pickups. I guess people just like to stick with the older, more tried and true options.

I would totally try the Pegasus if I had a guitar to put it in. Right now I just don't have a humbucker guitar in need of pickups - I have too many pickups in fact.

I went through phase where I was trying to "find myself" in terms of tone and began, almost fanatically, scouring eBay for used humbucker to try out. I put them in my guitar for a while, then take them out and put another in. Sell the one I took out on ebay or Reverb. I broke even for the most part, so I can't say I really lost anything other than practice hours in my pursuit of my ideal guitar tone.

All the demos I've run into sound very plastic?
From the little bit of attention the Sentient neck pickup gets in demos I hear none of the the woody mojo of the 59, or the singing sustain and vibrant clarity of the Jazz... it's just sort of more plastic with a little less bite than the neck pickup.

Could just be the sound all the kids are going for with their emulators set to rectifier? not the pickups themselves?

The Pegasus/Sentient set is the one I constantly see being recommended, but nobody seems to have them.

I have the Sentient 7 but not yet installed it. I have an Invader 7 to go with it.

I've not installed them as I'm unsure on keeping the guitar. It's a chapman 7 string but I'm still deciding if the 27" scale length is still good for me.

Regarding the Pegasus: it sounds snappy to me -- that's they best way I can describe it. Articulate and snappy, with a present upper midrange, not spiky though, and an open and clear sounding bass response that doesn't mush out. You need to have your chops together because it is somewhat unforgiving with a rather firm and solid response -- not soft and spongy like how the JB sounds to my ears.
