Performer Scorcher

I heard that the seymour duncan shr-1 hotrails and the performer scorcher are the exact same thing. Is this true? If not, whats the difference. I've been wondering this for a really long time not. O yeah, and has any1 played a ssl-5 custom staggered before? Hows it sound. Does it really sound like a vintage strat?

Re: Performer Scorcher

They can't really be the exact same thing since they look completely different. The Scorcher uses the triangle base, while the Hot Rails uses the enclosed oval base. The Scorcher may be based on the Hot Rails, but I believe its made from engineering specs in China or Korea.

Re: Performer Scorcher

I don't think that the base shape matters. An identically wound and sounding pickup can be made with either shaped base.

Re: Performer Scorcher

True. I just meant that the pups don't just roll off of the same assembly line, and some become Hot Rails and some become Scorchers. They're made in different places by different people. :)

Re: Performer Scorcher

but the output is the same? I have a performer scorcher, and i always wanted to know what the difference would be. the hot rails is supposed to be "subtlest" to finger movements, but isnt any pickup like that when u have a nice over drive or crank the volume up?
