Pharaoh vs Supercollider

Looking for personal experiences with both of these pedals.

Earthbound Audio was bought out I guess, and the Supercollider has been re-released -- as far as I understand, it's the same pedal in a new casing.

There's a ton of reviews out there on the Pharaoh, but it's hard finding much about the Supercollider -- the ones I have found though are rave.

So has anyone played or owned both? If so, please share your thoughts and experiences.

Re: Pharaoh vs Supercollider

I owned both at very different times, so my opinions are filtered through time.

IIRC the Supercollider was much more raw sounding than the Pharaoh. Much more gain on tap and more versatile due to the (kind of) 3 band EQ. I actually didn't like the Pharaoh much through my rig but the Supercollider killed. I returned it because I didn't need that kind of sound back then, but I might have to get another one, especially since they're a bit cheaper and in a smaller enclosure.

Re: Pharaoh vs Supercollider

most on the riffrock.com forum dig the pharaoh over the supercollider. I dig my pharaoh, I use it on my soundcloud recordings for reference through my tech 21 oxford in the songs "March into the Sea" and others.

Re: Pharaoh vs Supercollider

I have and like both. I have a slight preference for the Supercollider. The 3band eq is an advantage IMHO and it's a bit more aggressive to my ears.

Still, both Big mUff derivatives so they aren't miles apart.

Re: Pharaoh vs Supercollider

Need to get a Pharoah to compare to my Supercollider. I love the Supercollider, but the online vids of the Pharoah sound great. Obviously both muff based, but they remind me a lot of the original swollen pickle. Just massive crushing fuzz while remaining tight if you need.

Re: Pharaoh vs Supercollider

Looks like the Supercollider had silicon and LED clippers, vs Pharoah's germanium and LEDs?

I would like to hear a Supercollider in a stoner/doom/sludge setting. The Pharoah seems to get nice and saggy, which may be more useful in that sort of tone than the powerful EQ. It might be the germaniums in it.
I was hearing a lot of Metal Muffesque cutting hi gain out of the Supercollider.

You're dead-on with the diodes and the feel of both.

I also recorded this doom song with my pharaoh in the chain:

here is my fav video of the pharaoh:

Re: Pharaoh vs Supercollider

Thanks for the responses guys.

Interestingly enough, along with the original, Acid Age has a new Supercollider model , the "71".

From the site:
* 1 - SC voice in stock & ready to ship *
* 71 voice ships in 5-10 days *

The SUPERCOLLIDER is back in a smaller size and available in 2 different versions.

SC is the standard version that has been a favorite among bass players and heavy guitarists for the aggressive attack and huge low end.

71 is the new version that is based on an old 70's muff schematic. This voicing has a creamier sound with a less aggressive attack than the SC and a smoother tone.

Both SUPERCOLLIDER versions feature these controls:

LEVEL
GAIN
TONE
MIDS
MASS

Never tried the other one, but i do own a Pharaoh.

LOVE that thing !

Sooo much more than just a muff-like pedal !

My Bassman sounds GODLY-PERFECT with only this unit between the SG (w. SD A2P's) and amp !
