Phat cat bridge Stag mag neck

Hey Guys,
Would this be too unbalanced and miss matched? Personally I think it would be great for tonal versatility. Just an On/off switch/tone pot for the Phat Cat and use the 3 way switch on my tele for the neck coil's (south, both, north).

The tele has a maple neck and a surprisingly good Agathis body. It resonates and sustains forever!

Thoughts?

Re: Phat cat bridge Stag mag neck

Be prepared to do a mag swap on the Phat Cat, as I've ended up doing that in all of mine. Twin A2's don't cut it for me. Kind of thin and weak in mahogany, not sure about a Tele. An A5/A2 pair would be better to boost the output. I like an A8/A4 or A8/A5 pair best in the bridge. More muscle & mids.

Re: Phat cat bridge Stag mag neck

I've never tried the Stag Mag in the neck, but I've heard of a people who have and who've liked it.

However, I'd guess there wouldn't be that much difference between the north and south coils in the neck position (unlike in the bridge where there is quite a big difference.) You might be better with series/split/parallel.

Re: Phat cat bridge Stag mag neck

stock PCb might be ok in a tele but i also found it muddy. 2 A5s are fine if you don't want to wait for others to arrive.
the stag mag in the neck of a tele's a good idea, i should try that. i have one here i've not tried yet...

Re: Phat cat bridge Stag mag neck

Thanks guys! I like the idea of an A8 Phat Cat. Maybe instead of the stag mag the Custom Shop strat in a bucker pickup?

Re: Phat cat bridge Stag mag neck

what'd you end up doing?

FYI, have just tried a stag mag in parallel in an LP neck and am thinking it'd go better in my tele (same wood as yours); cleans are good but in the neck slot of this guitar you notice the blunt high end as it gets dirty. in theory, series would be even worse
the pole piece stagger on mine is pretty full-on as well, looks like it'd be well-suited to the 7 1/4" radius...
i'm guessing it was originally meant to go in a strat bridge, but i think a stag mag with non-staggered A3 or A4 mags would be great in an LP or jazz box

Can you get such pole magnets?[A2-A5]as in,availability?
Can't say I have any idea how it would go in a tele.I thought they were made for humbucker guitars.
I've got my Neodymiums in parrralell but I'm going to wire them in series to find out what the diff. may be.
Have you played with your Neo's yet?If not ,get to it!:D

Re: Phat cat bridge Stag mag neck

The Stag-Mag with non-staggered A5 was called The Mag! Now discontinued, maybe on fleabay??
