phat cats - alnico 2 - why?

well i was under the impression that phat cats were modled after the sp90-1's, but they have alnico 2 mags instead of 5, why is that?

how much would a custom shop phat cat that's identical to the sp90-1 run?

I don't know why either, but they sound great. It's your money, but in this case I'm not sure the difference would be worth the $$$. However, if you want ot spend the $$$, then let us know how it works out!

my guess would simply be because thats what made it sound better, and closer to the other pickup........must just be, for some reason, the A2 made it sound closer

Keep in mind the phat cats were a design collaboration between Hamer and Duncan. I can't tell you why they settled for A2.

I can tell you though that MJ put an A5 in the neck of my PC's. I also have a ceramic in the bridge. To be exact, Vintage neck for the neck, Custom neck for the bridge (rwrp). Wound to the PRS specs.

May be they just wanted the benefits of an A2 in a P-90 desing. Smoothness, touch sensitivity, warm overdrive... I hope I am wrong or Scott_F will make me disapear!! :laugh2: :laugh2:
