phat cats in a 335

I have problem with the phat cats in my 335. When played separately they sound ok. When combined the volume drops noticeably and they sound a little out of phase. When I put them in, I did not do the 50's wiring. I just connected them to the existing wiring harness. Any ideas what the problem could be? I was thinking about building a new wiring harness and doing it as per the 50's wiring.

I think thats normal with those, seeing as one pup is RWRP , Less noise in the middle but volume drop and out of phase sound. :bye:

in typical gibson fashion when the two pups are both on they are in parallel so the volume drop is normal as is the tonal change due to some cancelation. since the pups are single conductor i doubt you have them out of phase

You can isolate the part of the Jimmy Page system that lets you use a push-pull to change the PU's from parallel to series, when they're on together. Then you get a real humbucker tone, with a boost in volume.

Thats not a bad idea Blueman, i could use that idea with my Phat Cat tele idea hmm

Look at the 21-sound, 4 push-pull Jimmy Page system on Guitar Electronics.com. Eliminate the volume pots as they're for coil cuts (in other words, make them regular non push-pull pots). One tone is phase & the other links the PU's in parallel & series. I've "lifted" the phase-parallel/series part (2 push-pulls) and put that in a guitar with 2 P-90's. You can do this with single conductor PU's so it works for all SC's & HB's. I haven't separated the parallel/series parts from each other yet, although someone on this forum should have that, so you can do this with a single push-pull (where's our wiring experts?).

Instant overdrive & volume boost on any two PU guitar. Certainly something that ought to be seen more often.
