hey, y'all!! here is a pic of my current rig. I may be getting a distortion box to replace the DS-1 shortly. I think it has too much of a mid hump. but this is how it is right now.

Yeah, it's stock. Just got it in on monday actually. I needa tweak some more. I'm starting to dig it at low volumes (with the ds-1). I still need to crank it to see if I really like it.
and if I do change the speakers, I'm thinking maybe an Eminence Governor to try to pull out some of the upper mids.
the LoFi is just that - Low Fidelity. I have it set for "AM Radio" (which was supplied in the manual) and it really sounds like an AM radio. there are 2 knobs that control the tone. One for lows and one for highs. What it actually does is move the frequency points on the filters so on the lows, the more clockwise, the higher the cut-off point. it's opposite on the highs side. if you have the lows full clockwise and the highs full counter-clockwise, you only get like 1 kHz coming through.
the setting I use is most of the lows out and some of the highs. it really sounds like an am radio with an old, ratted out speaker.

You mean people actually want that kind of tone?
Say what you will about the DS-1 though, I think it's one of the most useful pedals ever made. Especially for the price you can't beat it.

I can see it having its place. It's a lesser-used effect, I'm sure, but I think in the right hands it could really add interest.

yeah, it's best if used sparingly. like intro's, outro's and bridges.

Wes Borland of Limp Bizkit did a similar thing with a BOSS Graphic EQ pedal. Had 2 or so of the high and mid faders up, and everything else turned right down.
I've tried it with my EQ, and it does produce quite a cool effect. Couldn't use it too much, but would sound good on the occasional riff etc

perfect example of the LoFi - Flaw's "Only the Strong" ... the intro is done with the LoFi then it kicks in with the same riff without the filter. So you get a good before and after thing.
Just turned my amp up a little more and I'm liking it more and more everyday.
