Pick the amp that does the best Fender/Marshall combo?

What do you think? Since heaps of manufacturers have started aiming for that elusive Fender clean/Marshall dirty sound, who do you think has succeeded? From what I hear, the Framus and Orange Rectoverb are leading the pack. Rivera apparently rips it up as well.

Probably Rivera.

The Rectoverb's clean channel is based on a Blackface Fender preamp, but it's got ane awesome overdrive, but neither channel sounds anything like a Marshall.

1) CAA OD-100 - blackface Fender, and the best Marshall you've ever heard ;) Listen to Scott Henderson, Mike Landau, or the Goo Goo Dolls and you'll see why I choose it. The lead tone is the voice of God.

2) Bogner Shiva - warm, sweet Fender cleans and hotrodded Marshall in one great package.

3) Rivera Knucklehead - simply pretty good Fender and Marshall in a good package.

Fender '59 5F6-A Bassman. The Tweed Bassman. The Reissue sounds great!

Since Marshall copied this amp to create the JTM-45 and the Plexis, it's a no brainer!

Plug your ax into a Boss DS-1 and the DS-1 into the Bassman and you're set to go...

There's an Orange Rectoverb? Or are you talking about the Mesa Rectoverb...

Sorry - Rockerverb. Got all mixed up :laugh2:

Re: Pick the amp that does the best Fender/Marshall combo?

Those Orange Rockerverbs absolutley slay. Im really considering selling the JCM 2000 for one.

I don't think any body has it right yet. That doesn't mean that the Amps you mentioned are bad, in fact I think many "other" Amps are very underrated. But for me I love the fender Cleans, and I don't think any body has the sound as good as the old ones. I also love the Marshall sound. So I use both... A/B'd with any necessary effects in each Amp. I stopped trying to find one box that does it all, I don't think one amp or one guitar can do everything we want. So keep on playing thru as much gear as necessary to find the sound that works for you.

totally, given the choice it would be fender twin A/B with a JCM 800, i just dont find that a convenient package for gigging, i like one box.

I think all the amps that everyone's mentioned are great amps, but I can't think of a single one amp that does Fender clean and Marshall roar. I had the same problem 15 years ago and started using a signal processor/power amp rack system.

I'll never forget the day that a Rivera Hundred-Duo-Twelve combo absolutely smoked my head. The clean is VERY usable, quite a bit Fenderish, and not bland. But OOOOOOOOO, that Ninja Boost on the gain channel.......LEMME TELL YA!

Seraphial, out of what's easily available to you, I'd check out Rivera. Not cheap, but built to last.

Hey Grits, happy new years mate! Hope you had a good one - did you gig over new years or have a nite off?

Was looking at trademe today and saw a Rivera Chubster (45w 1x12) going for $1690. Haven't heard much about this particular amp, and not many reviews of it. Do you anything bout them?

Re: Pick the amp that does the best Fender/Marshall combo?

happy new year to you too. We had members over seas, so we took a break for new years. A bunch of mates and I did get mistaken for Steriogram by some tauranga lasses, though. That was a laugh.

We played Myers Park with Odessa and a couple of other bands on sunday, and got 2-3000 peeps along. That was a good time.

Anyways, enough idle chit-chat. I've only heard the knuckleheads and rakes, so I can't be of any specific help. Sorry, bud.

Re: Pick the amp that does the best Fender/Marshall combo?

I have yet to hear one for myself, but if money is an issue I've read great things about the Traynors YCV 40 and 50. While no one claims that they sound EXACTLEY like a Fender or a Marshall they say that these amps will get you close to those tonal territories. Hopefully one day I can try one out .

Re: Pick the amp that does the best Fender/Marshall combo?

A Traynor? Must look at that, I've never seen one in NZ, but I'll find out if anyone imports them. Thanks for that.

I rang the importer for Rivera, and he says he'll sell me the Rivera Chubster (2 channel 1 x 12) for around the same price.

Ohhh, GAS...

And to Grits - STERIOGRAM? Haha, that's classic...
