Hello everyone. I have done some searching on this board and still need a little help. I want to change the pickups on my RG 350. I want a good heavy sound but that is good for all things. My other guitarist has the Emg 81/85 setup and I need somthing thiat is going to mesh well with him. I was thinking of the Duncan Distortion and the Jazz cuz I know Gus G from Firewind uses that set up and I love his tone. I was also thinking of a Dimarzio Megadrive or X2n in the bridge and some other dimarzio or the same Jazz in the neck. A bud of mine has a X2N in his strat and it kills for metal. Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Re: Pick up help for Ibanez RG 350 Dx please.

I think the DD would be great as well as the ultra versatile JB. I used to own the same guitar, but never got around to changing out the old power sounds. For what it's worth I currently have a RG42 thru neck witha fixed bridge with a DD in the bridge and a Jazz neck. The DD replaced a JB, which had better clarity and a slightly better lead tone(more mids) while the DD seems to have a little tighter response in the chug department(palm muted E and A stings). So it is a trade off. That being said my favorite player is a ESP M2, very similar to your 350 except it's alder instead of basswood. It came with a JB/59 set up and the palm muted stuff could not be tighter so I guess it is guitar dependant. I hear a lot of guys slam the JB and wonder if they have really experienced one for themselves? If I had to have just one pickup the JB would be my choice. Good luck in your quest for that perfect tone.

Thanks for the replies. I have a MusicMan Petrucci that the pick ups are similar to the Steve Special and the Air norton I think (they sure sound good!). Does any one have an opinion on the Megadrive or the X2N?

The x2n is straight out very high output. Very balanced tonally. No frequency exxagerated over another.. Its just output the the roof.. No useable clean tones.

I just got back from seeing my friend play and is X2n sounded good. His band plays old school metal. I thought it was cool.

I'd go with JB/Jazz. It'd mesh best with your other guitarist IMO.

On mine I'm seriously considering dual Rio grande BBQ's, with just a rio grande vintage in the middle. Either that or some 59's. (I have slightly different taste :P)

Once again thanks for the replies. A JB would mix well with and EMG 81?

It should, it'll just be alot more natural sounding.

If you're really concerned about that you could get a distortion.
