Pick-Up Recommendations

I have a 1983 Les Paul. I am looking for a new set of pickups that can cover a lot of different material. Some of the bands we cover are Foo Fighters, Velvet Revolver, Aerosmith. I need some pick ups that will clean up nicely for the softer stuff as well. Currently I am playing through a 2210 but am thinking about going to one of the Marshall combos for a more versatile sound as well as being easier to carry around. I have been leaning towards the Alnico Pro 2's or the 59's.

Any suggestions.......

Thanks.

Re: Pick-Up Recommendations

I would go with the Alnico II's personally. The other guitar player I play with has a set in his Goldtop and it sounds real good! The AlnicoII IMO is one of the warmest sounding PUPs I have heard. Many people will tell you that the Ants or Seths are going to get you close to a real PAF type of tone and as these are both great sounding PUPS I feel the AlnicoII's sound warmer espicially in a clean setting. Thru a hard driven Marshall the sound awesome also.

I work closely with a Luthier here in NY and his PUP of choice for his Archtops are the Alnicos also. I have heard them in 335's, LP,L5's and a variety of other guitars and I think for a classic type of tone they are a good choice.

The Antiquities or Seth Lovers would also be a great sounding PUP in a Les Paul.

A2Pros
or go A2Pro and something fatter in the bridge like a Custom, C5, or Custom Custom.

There are some other brands you can consider as well.
