Pick-ups For An SG????

Re: Pick-ups For An SG????

I tried a Seth set in my SG, and I don't recomend it. The bridge was too thin compared to the stock 490t. The SethN was better than the 490r, but it was still too muffled. I ended up switching the magnet to an A5 and swapping the volume pot to a 500k, and the neck is much better.

This is for lightly to moderately overdriven roots music, BTW.

The faded SG specials definately have mahogany necks w/rosewood fingerboards. So barring any really strange one-offs, that is what you have. That being said, I would recommend staying away from the Dragon II. IMO it is too bassy and maybe a little too hot to match up with the texas. Maybe not too hot but I experienced some serious over powering bottom end in mine (when I still had it ;)) anywayz, I was not impressed with it. If that fingerboard is in fact ebony you will probably have a whale of a time making anything sound GREAT.

it de facto IS ebony board. that's why it has the half moon inlays as well cos it's one of the early models which were used to get rid of the Gothic series left-overs like the ebony boards... the later models have rosewood boards...

so if I have an ebony board maybe a duller/muddier pup would sound pretty good/better than in a RW boarded guitar...

Just a darker pup period. I've heard the CUSTOM CUSTOM sounds sweet with an ebony board. But I have yet to try it. I'm afraid the bottom might be mush with the tunings I play in. The Invader has been suggested too. I've been thinking of the RIO BBQ also.
