Pick-ups that sound vintage

It been a while since I've been on, and not sure if this Thread belongs here or not. But I figured it's a bass questions so.
I recently purchased a 5 string standard Fender Jazz bass, that I'm playing at my church for the moment. I want to make some modifications like new pick ups, but which ones?
I have Antiquity II in my 4 string jazz basses and love the tone and warmth it puts out. I read a lot of blogs and still not sure what to get, since they don't make Antiquity's for a 5 string yet. Can someone tell me more about 67/70 and Apollo 67/70 noiseless. Do they have a vintage sound? Does anyone own any of them? Thanks

Re: Pick-ups that sound vintage

Ok thanks, I guess I'm looking for a vintages sound, I agree I don't want them to mess with the Antiquity line, just something simillar

Re: Pick-ups that sound vintage

Wouldn't the custom shop make you a set of Ants for a 5 string?

Re: Pick-ups that sound vintage

the custom shop could put an antiquity wind on a 5 sting bass pup, probably sound great and "vintage" but wouldnt sound like a 4 string jazz. ive never heard a 5 string sound like a classic/vintage 4 string but that doesnt mean you cant have a hip 5 string sound.

juan nelson plays an active fender 5 and he gets a good tone but i wouldnt call it vintage. this is him playing with ben harper (and marc ford!) not the best example but its at least in a loud blues rock context. oh and marc ford.

i like ben harper but he does get on my nerves sometimes so skip around to get some bass flavor

Re: Pick-ups that sound vintage

I read a blog, where someone mentioned that, and the guys response was yes, but at a cost of $350, and as much as they would sound awesome, that's to much for me

Re: Pick-ups that sound vintage

Nice video, and I get there are no vintage 5 strings bass sounds, maybe I'm looking for a warmer tone, lol I can't put my finger on exactly what I want to say LOL

Re: Pick-ups that sound vintage

How about the Apollo Jazz Bass? Those sound amazing, are quiet, and have a slightly-fatter-than vintage sound. My favorite bass pickups lately.

That's what he was asking about at the end of the post. ;)

I ended up going in the opposite direction for my MIM Jazz V, with Quarter Pounders, preamp and Stainless Steel strings, reserving the 4 String for more vintage tones.

Re: Pick-ups that sound vintage

The 67/70 70/74 Series for 5 string Jazz are the same winding as the SJB-1 Series for 4 string, which is vintage output and voicing. They sound like a new version of the Antiquity Series without the aging properties of Antiquity. They have a sharper, less spongy attack. Apollo's are punchier. (my new faves). No compromise from being noise cancelling like other technologies.
