I've had both 1 and 3 layers of plastic and not noticed any difference. Put on an aluminum one, and that had an effect. Got a little bit brighter.

i've had 1, 3, none (frankenstrat) and aluminum and the only change was with the aluminum in the fact that i got a bit of a faint hum/noise from it actually.

It shouldnt make too much difference. Single ply are more prone to warping and are often drilled with 9 holes.

Strange the aluminum would cause hum as it should act as a giant shield.
