Picks

Hey guys!
I think it'd be cool to post what picks we use, it can give us a chance to tell people about which picks we prefer and maybe give other players ideas for new ones to try out. To start off, I've been using the Chicken Picks 3.0 mm pick for the past 2 months and I've loved it!

Always used to use Tortex .50s, but have been experimenting lately with a little heavier (can't stand any thicker than 1.0mm). Got some good-feeling picks from PickBoy, but every time I really got into playing for awhile (like at band practice) they all wore down quickly and left my guitar covered in pick dust!

My kids got me some Dunlop Tortex and Ultex .73mm for Christmas and I'm really digging both. Next band practice is tomorrow night, so if they don't turn to dust on me I think my search will be over!

Re: Picks

the ultex picks wear really well. they have a harder sound than the tortex but i still dig em

Herco 75. It's a nylon 1mm pick for those wondering what the heck this is. I like the grip and the warmer/softer attack that I get from these vs something more "alive" like a Tortex.

Re: Picks

Dunlop Tortex player since the late 80's. Started with the .88 green and played them exclusively until around 2007. I now use a combination of the .60 orange and the .73 yellow as well. I've tried thicker and thinner than those three but could never jive with them.

I like the orange for acoustic since I use .11's and can get a bit heavy with the right hand. I like the give of the thinner pick in that instance and to me I get less piezo "quack" though the PA.

For electric it depends on the guitar, tone and genre of music. Basically the cleaner the sound the heavier I like the pick. Plus heavier strings/longer scale go with a thicker pick...in my world.

Just to add...the older I get the more I'm into using just plain old fingers or a combination of pick (the hide the pick in the first finger trick) and fingers....especially for acoustic and clean electric.

Bi-angle Tusq Graphtech 1.00mm warm, Fender Medium 346 and one of those cool vinyl record picks a forum member sent me.
