How do i lower the an individual height of a pole piece?

Don't do it....The coil windings may break while you try to move the pole..I did this on a Fat 50 years ago and ruined it...Trust me...Leave it alone!

Re: Pickup adjustment

I've never had to do it myself.. I've always been satisfied with just adjusting the height of the pickup.. Why do you want to lower a pole piece?

Don't adjust the pole pieces? I do that all the time with no trouble at all. You are kidding, right?

No I'm not kidding...You might be able to get away with doing that on some pickups, but I tryed it on a Fender Fat 50 and ruined it...Good luck...I'm saying don't do it,but it is your pickup....LOL

Re: Pickup adjustment

if the pole piece is adjustable, like a slot head screw or a hex nut, you can gently make the turns with the screwdriver or hex key (allen wrench) ... the slug (non adjustable) pole pieces shouldnt be messed with

you can try to lower the treble side of the whole pup a touch to try to take some of the harshness off of the e string ... the tone knob might roll some off too

cheers and good luck

Re: Pickup adjustment

So, does adjusting the pole pieces really make that big of a difference? Have I just been lucky with my pickups not needing adjustments?

More than likely...Maybe some flat poles are in your future? Pushing up or down on the poles is just bad...You may get away with it for awhile, but if that little wire is stuck to the pole and you move the pole...You risk breaking the wire and you now have a single coil paperweight...

I never knew :smack: . I've taken several pole pieces completely out before with no problems. I guess I'l have to watch out. Thanks for the heads up.

Re: Pickup adjustment

some pups have diferent bobbins.. like for example to powersound pups. the slugs are surrounded by plastic of the bobbin and do not come in touch with any wire, anywhere. you can move those in an out as you please.. but i found this out after i deliberately destroyed one of em
