Re: Pickup Bonanza Sale

What's the Jackson bridge pickup from?

A lower-level dinky. It's got a big ceramic. Not too bad a pickup. I can drop an A2, A5, or A8 in it if you (or anybody) wanted me to. Might have a normal size ceramic lying around too. I liked it for moderately heavy tones. I'd say 80's (non-EMG) metal is my fav tone from it. It's been sitting around since Feb. or so, though, so it's been a while since I last heard it.

Re: Pickup Bonanza Sale

The year is anyone's guess, but I would believe it's the bridge model (I think the there is no neck version?). It has a long enough lead for whatever you need, though.

Re: Pickup Bonanza Sale

I know they did 2 versions - the one from the late 70s that remained in use through the mid 80s, then they reissued it for some Grunge/Alt guy's sig model Strat in the late 90s. Guy from Blink 182 I think. Single hum.

At any rate, the reissue, as I understand it, was a 500T with 12 screws, as opposed to the original DF which was about 15-16K (at least on my meter).

And the original did come in both neck and bridge versions. I still have the neck model that came out of an '85 Explorer. Shoulda kept the bridge, too :(

While the reissue isn't a bad pickup, it's still closer to the 500T (which wasn't bad either) than a "true" DF. But then that's also a bit of snobbery, of which I am guilty in this case.

I apologize for my ignorance, I knew it was the recent reissue just not the year itself, but I did not know that they had a different neck version for the original. I've seen a few recent guitars with it and their descriptions made them sound like they just had two bridge reissue DFs, so they may have only reissued a bridge model (I don't know, honestly). But I digress, it's the reissue (or the best looking 30+ year old pickup ever lol).

Re: Pickup Bonanza Sale

It's double black with dual rows of slugs. It's single conductor and ground, not braided.

Ok thanks for the info. Decided to go w/ something else.

Here's a bump for ya haha

On a different note, have you ever had the chance to try the Slick Old School pickups? I'm curious about them for my travel / old beater guitar.

I've tried the rockers and the leads and both were very good, but I haven't tried the oldschools

Nope, there is no neck vs bridge. They were and are exactly the same. I've heard of people taking out the spacer mags in the neck tho. Your "neck" pickup might be a velvet brick, which was essentially a T-Top with a big ceramic.

As for the newer version being a double screw 500T, also nope. The new ones are potted, and probably wound on different machines, but other than that they are the same as the originals down to not being offered in wide spacing (which all 500T's are). Anyone that's played both knows they are not the same pickup.
