Stratoblaster Tone Meister
Artietoo was nice and let me borrow his Duncan Pickup Booster...
I absolutely loved what it does for my single coil and split fullsized humbucking tones in my strat and the benefit of having a switchable boost for soloing and making everything fatter..

So here's how I played and evaluated the booster...
I used my alder/maple necked strat that has a fullsized Scremon Demon in the bridge wired for series/split/parallel options...The split and parallel positions sound nice, but are a bit anemic compared to a great strat single coil pickup like the Antiquities....I Loved the fact that I could use the 1 and middle 0 resonance positions and really beef up my split/parallel tones...I only had the gain at about 9 o'clock for my initial testings and I was blown away by the improvement I heard when switching the booster in...I was playing clean and straight into my BF Pro Reverb amp and I didn't hear any added noise or anything I'd consider a problem..

The resonance switch didn't "exactly" cop the series tones of my Scremon Demon's series tones, but it was close enough, but with a slightly different eq and ballsy tones overall with added volume and gain that I loved....

Those of you that split your single coil sized or fullsized humbuckers and lack the added tone and balls of the series positions on your humbuckers will absolutely love this pedal....It's priced great and does a great job...I see I'll have to have one on my own board one day soon...

If you love the way your pickup(s) sound and just need to push the front of your amp or want a bit more sustain from your guitar etc..this is the way to get it and with no overall coloring if you keep the gain down...

If you feel your split/parallel tones are bright, thin, and anemic, like I always do,this is the solution...Special thanks to Artie for the pedal and Evan who has been instrumental in help regarding the pedal...I NEED ONE! LOL

John..so how will this do for a stock strat bridge/neck position?..will it get "humbuckerish" if thats what you want?

I really am enjoying the single coil sounds in my Strat and I'd like the option of getting a Humbuckerish tone as needed without actually dropping buckers in...doesn't have to be exact..but If I could get a fatter HB like tone with more sustain when I want it, I think this may be my solution.

Jeff....Yes,it's a great solution to get the best of both worlds from your single coils at the click of a switch and the pedal is priced great for all of us to reach..I'm very fussy when it comes to putting any or another pedal onto my board, but I felt this would be a real problem solver for those times when the split and parallel positions are too wimpy sounding..I also see myself stomping the pedal in for when I use my straight single coil strats or Teles to get that needed fat tone and boost..Great pedal from the Duncan folks(As usual)...

John, how does it sound when you use the 4th position with Surfers? Sometimes, i want to get that quacky sound, but i suffer from a loss of sustain when in the 4th position, and end up going to the 5th position. Does the booster help you get sustain in 4th position single coils?

I've already boxed up Artie's Booster and I didn't try the in between positions, nor did I Play my Surfer loaded strat? I'm getting one though as I Know it'll be an overall improvement.

Thats exactly what I thought. It didn't so much, make a single sound like a 'bucker, but added its own character and tone to the pup . . . any pup.

John . . . by all means, unbox it! Keep it and play with it awhile. I'm in no hurry to get it back. Someday . . . but not immediately. ;)

Btw - special thanks goes to John, and Evan, for that matter, whom, as a team, fixed the "intermittent" switch problem I had. I really appreciate that John. :)

You're welcome Artie...I got the jist of what the pedal does and since I'm not going to mount your pedal on my board, figured I'd get it back to you....I'm going to have my own here before long anyway...It's going to solve some of my weak bridge pickup tones, especially for leads and when I need lead boosts...Guess I really liked it alot..Can't say as though I've ever had anything from the Duncan products that I actually disliked and I own tons of their products...
