Pickup change for a down tuned Fender Strat

Hello,

I'm thing about changing up my sound a bit on a 2000 Fender Double Fat Strat that is downtuned a whole step, and has a Hard Tail bridge. I changed my amp setup since my Mesa Boogie F-50 died...that's another story altogether...I was ready for a different sound anyways. I'm playing Orange Crush series amps, as I just loved how they sounded and I'm ready from a break from valve amps. So, Fender Double Fat Strat, through an Orange Crush ( both 60w and 35w) with reverb. That's pretty much it. I occasionally use a Danelectro Cool Cat Chorus or a Boss DS-1 for a boost, but it's mainly the Orange. I dig the fat, barky mids and the girth of the amp, and didn't realize just how much I missed a British sound after playing a Mesa for so long...anyways...sorry for the ramble.

I play a variety of styles, from Jazz to Rock, all the way to Progressive and some harder metal, but not as far as thrash. The guitar currently has an Invader in the bridge and a '59 in the neck. I dig the tone, overall, but would like more dynamics, sensitivity to playing style and attack, as well as response to volume and tone knobs. The '59 actually works great in the neck, so I'm ok there. I'm looking at the bridge really. It's a nice sound, but I'm seeking a few changes to make the guitar more versatile. The woods are typical for the guitar, alder body, maple neck and rosewood fretboard.

I prefer a more fat, PAF-like tone I think. I like more singing, barky (honky?) mids, that can growl and is nice and open. Smooth distortion is great if possible and it doesn't need to be too hot, either. The highs I like to be warm, but not overly shrill and can add to the clarity or crunch to the amp. Full lows need to be there, but to a point where they can also tighten up and be crunch as well. I hope that all makes sense. I'm not sure of any artists that I can think of as an example, this is mainly in my ears! I think this is more of a PAF vibe I'm going for, rather than a more modern, high output pickup. Any thoughts? Suggestions on pickups that aren't the usual? I've played the JB and like that sound, but am thinking what I'm going for is a bit different than that pickup and certainly one that is more touch responsive. I'm open for suggestions and appreciate the input!

Custom. That said, the Dimebucker is the newest offering I've tried from SD, so there may be something better suited.

I love the Custom in my Les Paul and SG, but I also put it in my Strat and it sounded harsh, thin and trebly. I swapped out the ceramic magnet for an alnico 2 and it sounded way better!

The Custom or 59/Custom Hybrid is my choice here. You will get you dynamics back, and both will blend better with the 59.

Custom Custom or like Mincer said, 59/Custom Hybrid.
