pickup cover question...

hi again,

i know this is a pretty newbie question, but does anybody know how much it costs to get a cover put on a SD pickup? im thinking of getting a cover out on my SH-5 in the bridge and SH-1 59 in the neck...

Also, if the cover is nickel, does it look the same as the hardware on my SG?

There's an ongoing debate about whether covers change the tone or not. I come down on the side that it does take a tiny bit of presence (high treble) away, and how much depends on what the body of the cover is made of. Nickel silver (not just the plating) covers seem to have the least effect, while brass covers (whatever the plating, nickel/chrome/gold) seem to affect the tone more.

If you're handy with a solder iron, you can put the covers on yourself. As for whether it will match your hardware, find out if it's nickel or chrome and buy the appropriate covers to match. There isn't a glaring difference in appearance between nickel and chrome but there is some -- nickel is more pale and whitish and chrome is more like a mirror.
