Pickup height: A "failed" experiment

I just want to say that having a standard pickup instead of a trembucker won't make a difference in how loud the pickup is on 2 strings. That fraction of a millimeter difference in pole location ain't gonna make a lick of difference. You've got confirmation bias, imo.

Agreed with all that pup choice is the key to matching volume. But as others have said, I do my best to get diverse volumes out of pups for different things.

Most HSS I do have a power bucker bridge, a low output middle and a variable neck. That gives you strat sounds in the middle and power at either end- Use the strat sounds for rhythm and strat leads in 2,3,4 and potential for dark power from the neck and bright power from the bridge when you need to cut through.

Another answer to the OP issue is a compressor, but I personally want the dynamics.
