Pickup Height for SD P90 neck.

I play a guitar with a 59 Custom Hybrid and a P90 in the neck. I like P90s but this P90 sounds kind of anemic and somewhat dull. The Duncan P90 is factory installed. It looks low to me.

What is the generally suggested height for this pickup?

Thanks.

Welcome to the forum!

Here is an article on pickup height. Generally, you will find that almost everyone doesn't go by numbers alone. They use their ears. Don't be afraid of turning screws...just measure where you are so you can always get back to square 1, but you can adjust that P90 closer. The 59/Custom Hybrid is a powerful pickup, and a P90 might have to be pretty close to the strings to compete volume-wise with it.

Thanks a lot!

The stock bridge pickup was the Custom 5 but the mids sounded scooped on it. When I pushed things on solos it just didn't have it. But the C5 sounded great in single coil mode. I contacted Seymour Duncan and explained what I wanted and the man I talked to suggested the 59 Custom Hybrid Trembucker. I love that pick up. It sounds like the C5 in single coil mode and it has lots of guts in humbucker mode. I've installed them in this guitar and in my HSS backup. But this P90 has always sounded sort of weak.

Thanks again for the article link and advice!

The p90 should have 500k volume pot and the tone pot could be hooked off for more volume.

The guitar has a single volume and single tone pot. The thing in the middle is a kill switch I installed. The volume pot is 500k, though not the best quality.
