Pickup options for set-neck Tele thinline clone

While I own several nice USA built guitars,I still enjoy buying cheap imports for personal modding.I don't care about the lack of resale value, just that the guitar sounds good and plays well.

Anyways,I'm looking to buy a set-neck Tele thinline clone that features a maple neck, rosewood board and single F-hole swamp ash body. The guitar features a Gibson type bridge assembly,25.5 scale,a full size bridge humbucker and a Tele style lipstick neck pickup.

My first instinct is a Seymour Duncan '59 or Alinico II [maybe a Custom 5] and Vintage Tele Stack pickup combo.I will also replace the pots, switch and jack,as well as upgrade the bridge/tail.Sure,more than the initial price of the guitar, but I'm not worried about such.Btw,Will Chen at www.frugalguitarist.com was impressed by the guitar, and believes that it is a great platform for modding.I play mostly classic rock/metal and modern blues.Amps include an '84 Mesa/Boogie MKIIC+,a '96 Bedrock 651 and an '85 Dean Markley CD-30.Any opinions or other advice?

i would think a 59b and vintage stack might be a cool combo.

im not a big fan of tele neck pups so if it were me i would put a strat pup, firebird pup or lp deluxe style mini humbucker in there even if it required routing

Thanks,Jeremy.I actually dig the somewhat smokey/murky tones of the Tele neck pickup, and like the way it looks on this guitar.Yeah,I'm leaning towards the '59,as the '59b pickup has long been a favorite of mine.I really like it's cut and clarity, and prefer getting gain from my amp's preamp or with pedals. Thanks again.

What about stag mag in the bridge and a alnico II pro rhythm in the neck.Coil tapped bridge with a tele neck pickup should sound great.

Interesting option there,Chris.I want to keep it humbucking and the nickel/chrome cover look.I'll check it out, though.
