pickup question

guitar noob

New member
i have a ltd m200fm guitar which came with two LH300 emg humbuckers. my guitar has a coil tap, if i was to replace the bridge pickup would the coil tap still work for the neck and would i be able to get another volume knob installed if i was to replace my bridge pickup

any help would be much appreciated

Re: pickup question

Does the switch split both pickups, or only one? If the switch splits only the neck pickup, then replacing the bridge will have no effect on the split. If the switch splits both the neck and bridge, or only the bridge, then you need to get a pickup with four leads (two per coil) in order to retain the splitting ability.

If you want a second volume control, then it's matter of drilling the holes, installing a pot, and rewiring/resoldering.

Check the Wiring Diagrams on the SD page to see if anything there resembles what you want to do. Possibly this one?.

BTW, I think you mean coil-split, not coil-tap.

coil tap is used on single coils to cut some of the output on the pup. Coil split is to make on coil on a humbucker not work.
