Pickup question

Pickups come in boxes or plastic cases, right? and the magnetic fields of the pickups aren't limited to the containers, right?

So does stacking/moving/storing pickups in their boxes have any effect on the long term life & health of the pickups? Could they sit side-by-side or one on top of another for years and not have any negative effect? Or is there some possibility of degradation?

Re: Pickup question

Have you asked this question in the pickup forum? If not you may get an answer there a bit faster I suppose...

Re: Pickup question

Many years ago, someone started a thread about storing pickups close together in a drawer, a box or on a shelf. I cannot recall the correct title. Try the key words, pickup, storage and degauss.

Re: Pickup question

The completely unscientific way I see it is, Duncan and Dimarzio ship and sell a lot of pickups. If they thought their current packaging was degrading the product during shipping and storing, it would have been changed a long time ago.

I remember that one
The consensus was a non issue if I recall

I stack magnets together at work
They want to stack in one direction
So if both pickups are oriented the same then no harm no foul

Re: Pickup question

In the SD Custom Shop, there are boxes of pickups stacked all over. Prototypes from famous players, rejected models, current projects. If they thought there was a danger in storing such valuable history, my guess is that they wouldn't.

Re: Pickup question

I put all my faith in Seymour Duncan musically.

The thought never crossed my mind, but now that you ask...the only answer that comes to mind is "Seymour's got this."

He has had our backs since before a lot of us were born. He had Jimi Hendrix's back for crying out loud.

It think we are good.
