Pickup Recommendation

You guys did such an awesome job at directing me towards a custom custom for my SG that I was hoping to get equally surprising results from my Ibanez. I have an Ibanez NDM1, which is a basswood 25.5" scale bolton with a fixed bridge, that is rather dark sounding (opposite problem as with the SG). The SG is great for classic rock and hard rock so I want a bridge pickup for this one that can be used for some thrash and speed metal. I want passive because I can't afford to replace the rest of the pickups in the guitar, but I want really high output, a bit of a brighter sound but still with chugging palm mutes. Basically I want something that will sound unique and heavy. I've been looking at the SD Dimebucker, Distortion and Dimarzio Evolution. Any thoughts?

Re: Pickup Recommendation

oh yeah, the good thing is, you can remove your cc and swap the a2 mag with a ceramic and you get the custom. you can audition it in you ibby before you buy!

Re: Pickup Recommendation

For what it is worth, I started with a JB in my RG42 Which is a fixed bridge mahogany neck thru which is quite dark. The Jb was cool, but lacked tightness in the palm muted chunk. I just changed out to a Distortion and although I gave up a little bit of mid range tone the bottom end is the tone you described your after.

Is the distortion bright enough though?

Re: Pickup Recommendation

I have a Dimebucker in my RG1570. I like it. It's brighter and very articulate under high gain. Now I'm putting a DIstortion in the neck. Should probably be there in the guitar in a couple of weeks.
